What has failed on my AFS headlights?

I have an intermittent issue whereby I get the dipped headlight warning at the same time as my passenger side headlight losing its aim position and falling (limp) to the right.

Bulb has never flickered or gone out.

If I pull over, shut off the car completely and restart, this fixes the problem every time. At that point it may or may not come back depending on the duration of the trip and the terrain.

Every time I start, the lights to their proper aiming sequence. The issue only happens while driving and will not recover itself until I shut off and restart.

Ballast or control module?

I'm not sure what's up with yours, but I do get he dipped headlight thing happening and I opened the back of the housing and I can wiggle the assembly the bulb goes into quite a bit.

Ballast or control module?

Maybe none, it looks like the module looses the reference zero.
I would first perform a complete adaptation of the aiming with VAGCOM to see if it cures the issue.
