So I was driving in ~85 degree weather to Austin from Dallas and knew my air conditioning was crap. I was like OK, let me open up the windows and turn off the A/C. So switched it off, opened the windows, didn't like how it felt so I closed the windows and turned the A/C back on and set it to LOW. All of a sudden pieces of frost/ice just started shooting out for a second. Then a few minutes later it happened again.

My A/C sucked all summer and now I'm wondering what could be causing this. A friend said that could be refrigerant leaking and could be the compressor is shot. The A/C was cold but not cold enough like all summer (mind that it was in the high 90s here in Dallas). My wife at some point this summer also said water dripped out the bottom foot vent out of the driver side at one point this summer.

What do you guys think?

Anything simple I can check with VCDS or a simple DMM on the compressor?

TIA

You could be low on freon. When the system is low it has to work harder and causes lots of condensation that will freeze. Had this happen in my house unit a few months ago. The condenser coils turned into a block of ice. Take it to a shop and have them vacum /pressure test the system check for leaks and refill it to correct volume.

Sounds like the AC condensate drain may be clogged up.
