Hi guys, just joined. very familiar with forums, just new to Audi
Im looking at purchasing a 2007 A4 B7 Avant. Both that Im looking at are around 100K miles. I know Audis are maintenance heavy (which Im fine with, work on my own cars as much as possible), but what about longevity? What should I look out for? One has an APR Stage 1 tune fully loaded.
I know Timing belts, water pumps, are the main concern. Anything else I should be considerate of? Thanks guys.

Timing belt, cam followers and a nice test drive :P

i had 208,000 miles on my B6 A4 Avant. It went with the divorce but the A4 was in great shape and had many thousands of trouble free miles yet to go.
That's it really just taking care of servicing and repairs in the event something breaks.

is there a long term aftermarket solution to cam followers? I read this can be an issue.

There is but it's like $800 and I forget who makes it, some people don't have any issues with the cam follower and others replace there's every 15,000 miles, it's really not a big deal because the replacement takes about 20 minutes and part is $30

Honestly a properly maintained 2.0T usually doesn't require much. The B7 tiptronics are pretty reliable compared to previous Audis. Just make sure that the RPMs dont fluctuate while cruising at a steady speed on the test drive, preferably when cold.
Oil changes, timing belt, and check the cam follower every 20k or so.

Stay away from cvt transmission! I believe they only come in fwd so make sure you get a Quattro car.

cam follower is the big one. your PCV will eventually fail. water pump and timing belt should have or SHOULD be done soon. Timing chain tensioner sometimes goes bad... That's a PITA to replace. You'll know that one, it makes the engine much louder: Ticking noise from back of engine. Psh.. what else. Coilpacks and plugs. Preventative maintenance is key here.

Honestly speaking ALL Audi transmissions have their own set of problems, not just CVT. The key is maintenance and get as much service records as you can from the previous owner(s).

Yeah Tips and CVT's are meh.. I don't have a 6 speed because i didn't want to with all the tourist here in orlando..[headbang] i would never leave 1st gear.. but one day audi will make a great auto tranny.

All B7A4 Avant are Quattro so only 6 speed or Tiptronic. I have 215k miles on my B7A4 Avant with 2.0T and 6 speed. With 100k you may need to also think about a control arm kit.

Control arms, motor mounts, coils, PCV, and minor weird electronic/sensor stuffs, but all is manageable as long as you stay on top of it.

I think there's a company in Canada that does the conversion for $450. If the engine top half is opened up, I think it's something to consider. Of course, a handful of $40 cam followers changed out every 10-20K miles would be cheaper!

Yep, and no one knows how long this conversion last for. I wanna see one go 100k

I will check that upon test driving... good advice

It is a quattro, I wouldn't have it any other way for AWD. The goal is for snow, rain, play, and a little lux driving. My wife and I are adventure seekers that don't want a Subaru. We live in Portland, everyone has a Subaru.

215K is great. One that I drove seemed to handle like factory, but Ill take consideration in control arms. Someone told me motor mounts @SykoraA4, how do you really know when a motor mount is failing though?

Good to hear! Seriously makes me feel better about buying one.
What do you guys think its worth? Dealer is asking $10955... I know its way overpriced and so do they. They have lost money on the last 2 they sold and this is the last one they plan on selling for a while. Im thinking about offering $7,500. Immaculate condition, found out from calling dealers/shops on carfax that it has a ARP stage 1 tune, but selected currently at stock. This car has about 125k. What do you guys think? KBB shows $8,500...

Its not about the mileage, its how well a car was taken care off. But its all good, keep an eye out cause even an engine with 75k can be in poor shape without the proper care for the little things (like cam followers). Good luck with the purchase!

Consider one dating a hot 45 year old woman vs. a hot 24 year old woman:
Option 1: She's past the prime of her life but she has taken good care of herself and always goes to doctor's office for her checkups.
Option 2: She doesn't take the best care of herself but it doesn't show because she's still hot. She may need to go to the trainer (performance shop) to get more healthier but she's worth it because you know that you have lots of time to make memories together.

H2Sport made the roller follower conversion and I don't know if they are still even around.
No I believe they are not. The were based in Toronto and worked with APR. Closed up a few years ago AFAIK....But didn't someone else recently come up with a roller follower solution? For VW, posted it on vwvortex, but somebody linked to it somewhere on it...
Even a rolling follower is not a 100% solution so would stick to just replacing cam followers every other oil change (6k miles or 10k kilometers).

The H2Sport website is still up and running. Someone could call them at 905.702.8299, or email
[email protected] and find out if they still sell the fuel pump/cam upgrade. There's also http://www.h2salesandservice.com/Fuel-Pump-Upgrade-p/h2s-06f-103-498.htm which has the service still available.

Haha, @MNB5Tuner I agree with you but I'm planning on abusing this car. If I had 40k id buy the Allroad instead. And its half the cost of yours so If I need to throw in a few $1,000 every couple years, I'm still ahead. If was planning on a DD sport, I would very much consider it. Dont get me wrong though, I caught myself drooling by about the 5th picture [>_<]

I feel like I got shafted on price after hearing some of these. I pulled my 07 for 17k almost three years ago with 60k on it. Granted I do live in a snow heavy winter so they know they would get that price

I bought mine with 129k and I just did the follower, tbelt service, timing chain and tensioner along with a good carbon cleaning. This car is a darling.
It really is all about how it's been cared for.
I will always consider a higher mileage enthusiast owned example over anything else. Period
