Got on the highway yesterday, the car shifted and heard a huge POP!! I feared the worst of course. Pulled over and found this. Got home and the wife ran into the garage and though I bought a Harley. Is anyone surprised? The car came with these on so now the dealer will take the car back today to work on it.

Hit them up and see what kinda warranty they have on those bad boys. Dealership will put OEM ones back on... unless you don't care.

I believe these are no longer in their product catalog for a good reason and I will not put another set on. Also as I am not the original owner I'm sure the warrant is void. I am ok with OEM. My only other option are the new JHM cats but I'm not sure about emissions.

Oem cats are much more durable, but wickedly expensive. Get a quote from the dealer before you authorize, otherwise you could be hit with a $2500-3000 bill

Why are you concerned about emissions when you're already coming from HFCs? Surely the JHM ones can't be any less efficient. I'd get those. Replace both if you have to. Spring for the parts, let the dealer pay for the labor. Seems fair.... unless you don't want to pay anything, in which case you'll end up with an OEM CAT. Problem is, I doubt they'll replace both sides and one bank on HFC and the other on OEM is NOT a good idea.

Why should the dealer pay for labor for an aftermarket part they they didn't make or install? They have zero involvement with that and since it's an aftermarket part there is no emissions warranty covering it.
The OP is on his own here cost wise.

maybe he bought it like that used from dealer? no clue why else he would take it to the dealer and spend thousands on stock cats...

I had the center resonators deleted and added some HFC's because it was way to rich and wouldn't pass emissions. Most likely they will try and fix this set. I don't want to pay anything I just bought the car 8 weeks ago. If I did have to pay things would be different. Not CPO, used car dealer.

I bought this car with every mod in the sig used. No way it would be Audi CPO. But the dealership guys are really good and will take care of it.

If it's too rich adding hfc aren't going to do anything. If it failed emissions because you had no cats then they'll help you pass, initially. They don't last very long and may not be efficient enough on you next test to pass

Well then as long as they replace both go for OEM.

I took his other post to mean that the car had HFCs on it and then failed emissions, so he put two more in under the cat in the downpipes to replace the first set of resonators. Basically, defeating the flow characteristics of the HFCs. If I was him, I'd just have them out on OEM ones and take the bullshit rigged secondary ones out. Seriously, who the f* would advise someone to run two sets of CATs on a car to take care of emissions problems. That's just stupid beyond extreme.

I agree that this is not the ideal setup...no arguments there. They are not mated, the center resonators (which are straight pipe wrapped in a can), is where they are.
Looking at the welding for the 034 HFC, it appears that impurities in the weld caused it to split. Most likely they will repair the weld.
