Title says it all. Ive put a deposit down on a CPO S4 at Audi San Diego so I wanted to see if a forum member could go check out the car for me before having it shipped. I would fly out and drive it back but don't want to pay California sales tax. The sales guy has sent me some pictures, but I would like a noninterested party to scope it out before signing all the paperwork. Shoot me a pm if this is something you would be willing to do for a future S4 owner

Thanks!

I'm currently in Yuma for work till OCT 24th, however I would have no problems checking it out when I get back.. You in a rush?

George, thanks for the pm and the offer but I'm not sure how long they would hold the car; the 24th is a few weeks away. I would like to have it checked out sometime this week, if possible

You dont have to CA sales tax if you dont live in the state. Do you pay sales tax where you are living at? S4 CPO.... You have warranty o_o nothing to be afraid of beside like the paint and other parts.

Not what I was told by the guy that handles the out of state transaction at the dealership; they told me if I buy the car and want to drive it out of state, that I am liable for the sales tax. Cali requires dealerships to collect tax on a car sale if the car is driven in the state. Since I would be driving it in the state, the dealership is required to collect the tax or else they would be fined. We do pay sales tax in TX (6.25%)

And you are right, it is still under the mfgr warranty and has the cpo warranty, but the paint, body lines, and interior are all very important to me. It can be tough to listen to a dealer's description of the vehicle since they have skin in the game. I have more trust in a forum member that is meticulous and could point out imperfections.

I don't want to turn this into a "you don't need to do this" type thread. Even if they didn't require it to be collected, I would probably ship the car anyways.

Is the car that unique that you can't find a similar one in Texas?

It's a car with all the options I want at a great price. There isn't a similarly priced one in Texas for my price point. Ends up being cheaper even after shipping

Audi SD is about a mile from my house. Still need someone to go check it out? PM me the details on it if so!

Just a follow up. Audi SD tried to pass the car off as in fantastic condition. After inspection, this is what came back. This is in addition to a peeling start button, stained headliner, scratches in the CF trim, and some scratches on the mirror cover:

I had a deposit down on the car but they sold the car before I could tell them that I was either going to buy it or was going to pass on it. The contacted me a few days after selling the car to tell me that they sold it and were going to refund my deposit

I wouldn't have bought the car with the above, but I just wanted to let any future out of state Audi SD customers know that they should get their own private party to inspect the car. Thank goodness for the awesome forum member that provided very detailed pictures for me; he saved me a lot of headache and anger.

Thanks! I appreciate your pm as well for wanting to help. So far the AZ members have been great! I've got another member checking out another S4 for me in Ohio
