when I have the car in D (not S mode) and depress the gas pedal from a dead stop the car almost IMMEDIATELY switches to second gear....why? Vise versa when you put it in S mode it revs to over 3k in 1st before it switches into 2nd....why isnt there something in between? Dont know but just doenst make sense to me...does anyone understand the reason for this?

Are you pushing the gas down almost all the way when this happens ?
If you are in D , and you push the gas , but not very hard , it will switch into second very quickly.
