SOLD
Up for sale is my 1990 90 quattro 20V. Unfortunately for me the time has come to let it go as I have purchased a larger car for my puppy and I just don't have the room to keep the 90. I will do my best to list what has recently been done as well as it's condition. I am asking $3,000 or best offer.
About the car:
- Clean title
- 277,000 miles (Cluster has been replaced due to broken speedometer, new cluster had 165k miles on it when installed, now has 167k)
- Pearl exterior on blue leather interior
- Automatic climate control (A/C is cold, but the climate control prefers blowing the air on your feet more than out of the middle vents, defrost works well)
- Power driver and passenger seats, memory driver seat
- Power windows and sunroof (Driver and passenger work, sometimes rear passenger works, and rear driver does not. Sunroof opens and vents, sometimes makes a clicking sound)
- Quattro script rear window with working defroster
- Functioning rear differential lock and ABS kill switch
- Early 2 prong ECU and Hitachi ISV
- Factory rear sway bar
- Single piston 258mm front brakes
- Volt, oil temp, and oil pressure gauges (oil temp gauge does not work, I believe it is the sender as the gauge sometimes starts to move. Light bulbs burnt out in oil temp and oil pressure gauges)
- Cruise control inoperable
- Check engine light installed and functioning
- Cracked windshield
- Tabs good until July of 2015 (did emissions this year and passed with flying colors)
Maintenance:
- All done within the last 3,000 miles
- Front brake pads (bosch)
- Rear brake pads (bosch)
- Rear rotors (bosch)
- Rubber brake likes front and rear
- Meyle HD control arm bushings, ball joints, and tie rods (cast fronts, stamped rears)
- Green strut mounts with Mance Mount Savers front and rear
- Snub mount
- 034 street density rear differential mounts (all three)
- Lemforder engine and transmission mounts
- Alignment (can have checked/adjusted before purchase if desired, but does not need it)
- Newer style bolt through knock sensors with OEM bolts
- Distributor cap and rotor
- Throttle body gasket
- A/C and Alternator belts
- Main radiator
- Oil cap
- HVAC fan
- Napa Battery
- Redline transmission and differential fluid
- Windshield wipers
- Fuel filter
- Spark plugs
Upgrades:
- H&R sport springs
- B4 90 15'' wheels
- Brand new Dunlop DZ102's (summers only, size 205/50/15)
- 034 fuel injector upgrade
- 034 rear differential mounts (all three)
- Depo Euro H4 headlights with silverstar bulbs (did not do the wiring bypass so the low beam malfunction indicator is still present and working as intended)
- Pioneer DEH headunit that is able to color match interior with pre ran RCA cables to the trunk. Head unit has aux and usb input. (Rear speakers do not work, harness adaptor was used to installed headunit to going back to stock should be easy)
- Independent fog lights
- Rear locking differential speed cut out disabled (speedometer function retained)
- Clear corners
Over all the car is in pretty good shape. The exterior has a couple paint defects and dings. The interior is in good shape aside from the rear nets on the back of the front seats. There is wear that you would expect from a car of it's age.
I bought the car as a non runner, which turned out to be a small issue, and have since used it as a daily driver, for a couple road trips, and as a way to get me to the mountain for snowboarding. It has never let me down in the past two years. There are a few things I would like to be upfront with to any potential buyer.
- The gas tank is empty when the gas gauge hits the 1/8th full mark, which is just before the red lines. I ran out of gas on the side of the road because I thought I had more fuel, but turns out the gauge was inaccurate. I had never let it get that low and I'd highly suggest the PO does the same, or maybe replace the fuel level sender.
- When shifting into third gear above 5k rpms, the syncros quickly grind but the gear does engage. I thought changing the fluid (hence the recent Redline oil) would help. It made it slightly better but still not great. I do not shift above 5k when going into second in hopes of not making it worse. Perhaps Mance's secret sauce will help.
- The clutch is meh. It doesn't slip but it surely is not new. I do not know how old it is. I have had the car full of fuel, people, gear, and going up hills and the clutch never once wanted to slip. I would imagine when the clutch is changed it would provide a great opportunity to change the 2nd gear syncro or just put in a used 5 speed with less miles. With that being said, the shifter does feel good and is not very sloppy for as many miles as the car has. If you are not into driving it very hard (or just patient while shifting into 3rd) you will have no qualms.
- The springs are new but I have not yet replaced the shocks and they are tired. I would go with either the Koni's or Bilstein's.
- I received receipts from the previous owner who had the distributor assembly and gear replaced, as well as the timing belt and water pump. Someone on these forums also claims to have known one of the previous owners. He said the head had been rebuilt at some point. I do not know if there is any truth behind that as I do not have any paperwork. But the compression numbers were good and it does not smell like it is burning oil. These (aside from the claimed head rebuild) were within the last few years and within 20k miles. I put them, along with my own receipts, in a binder, but am having trouble finding where I placed it. It was with my other car binders, but I cannot seem to locate it at the moment. I will find it for the next owner. Along with the records I have printed out a very large repair/diagnostic manual that I will include with the car.
- When first starting the car the idle hunts, as well as when the A/C is on. I have replaced the ICV with another used unit, so I am not sure if that is it or a vacuum leak. It doesn't bother me too much so I have just left it.
- The subframe mounts could stand to be replaced. If I keep it I would go with the half poly one that are made by another enthusiast.
If you have any questions, would like any pictures, or would like to come see it please do not hesitate to ask. I have tried my best to accurately represent the car but I am sure there are things that I have missed both good and bad.
