View Full Version : merging OEM cd changer + satellite radio cables into RNS-E

For B6 (and maybe B7) A4/S4's with retrofitted RNS-E's and satellite radio, can the OEM cd changer be added? It seems B7 cars with RNS-E added at the factory have a cable in the glovebox that allows one to easily plug in a cd changer, however this cable is missing for those that retrofitted the navi.
From what I can tell, this cable has a blue connector that plugs into the back of the RNS-E, but that same spot is taken by another blue connector from the factory satellite radio. Is there a Y-splitter that connects to both the cd changer and satellite radio cables, and plugs into the RNS-E's quadlock connector on the other end?
And is there a part number for this CD changer cable, or would the ones below work?

Technically you would also need this. This will work with all 2002-2006 A4 with concert or Symphony radios.

Would that work with an RNS-E? I recall having some red connectors from my stock harness that weren't hooked up to anything after the RNS-E retrofit. Would the other red connectors plugin to the CD changer then?
Or did you mean the Sat Pass 2?

If your sat radio works now then the Sat pass 1 will do the trick. When it comes to retrofits I always use the sat pass for the original radio becasue retrofit harneses vary. As long as the sat is working now the sat pass 1 will do the trick.

The sat tuner indeed still works, but plugs into the RNS-E via a blue 12-pin connector (likely thru the retrofit harness). But if I also have a Dension Gateway Lite BT (GBL3AI2) with the same blue 12-pin connector, how would that plug in to 8-pin connector on the Sat Pass 1 ?

The GBL3AI2 is already using the CD changer port so you cannot add a CD changer.
You harness has a SAT PASS 2 Built into it.

Right...hence my question about whether a splitter exists that can connect a satellite tuner, CD changer, or Dension Gateway adapter simultaneously.
Below is the retrofit harness I'm using with the RNS-E, but none of the connectors look anything like the SAT PASS 2 [confused]

The only way to connect the dension and the CD changer is to physically disconnect them.

You mean one or the other has to be disconnected? Looks like this might actually allow both to be connected:

Or this too, along with the SAT PASS 3:

Looks like the 2nd one won't work as I'll still have the problem of two connectors (from the SAT PASS and CD Changer cables) and but only one input on the RNS-E.
But the 1st one should work I think without any of the SAT passes:
RNS-E -> cable splitter -> satellite tuner + dension gateway BT
