Hello everyone my name is Shawn and I live in New York, New York and I would like to introduce you all to my Audi, I have a 2001 Audi A4 2.8L Quattro with an ATQ engine code

Like all old cars mines has problems, and I like other passionate car people won't mind fixing it up and making it the best Audi it can possibly be. The car has around 250,000 miles all original, I bought the Audi April of 2014 for $800.00 (Quite a Steal for that Price)

I have a check engine light (CEL) with a few codes coming up

P0348 - Cam Position Sensor (Hall Sender) A Ckt High Input Bank 2
P0441 - EVAP Cntrl System Purge Flow Fault
P0130 - O2S Ckt Malfunction 1/1

I also have a Bentley Publishers Audi A4 Service Manual (Although it doesn't provide much info) and it says P0348 is P0343 in the book (same meaning) and I can confirm ross-tech says the same http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16727/P0343/000835

I got a whole bunch of parts too, I got a Dual Mass Flywheel and Clutch, Bosch Oxygen Sensor, Bosch Camshaft Position Sensor, Dayco Serpentine Belt, and Duralast Wheel Bearings and Brakes

I replaced the CMP Sensor but still got the Fault Code, which means I probably put it in the Wrong Bank. That's where you guys come in, I need help identifying which is Bank 1 and 2. I used The A4 Service Manual as a reference

Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G40- is located at rear of left cylinder block (bank 2).
Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor -G163- is located at front of right cylinder block (bank 1).

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look at buying it from ebay hehe.

Just letting everyone know I found the CMP sensor in Bank 2 (G40) (you have to unscrew the coolant tank and just put it to the side) and changed it. I cleared the codes and the CEL hasn't come back since although I didn't change the O2 sensor so I'll keep an eye out to see if the code comes back. The only reason I was trying to fix the CEL was cause my dad wants me to get the car inspected and pass it, and since it expired June 2014 I'm most likely gonna have to pay a fine. Also does anyone know what they do at a NY car inspection idk if it's the same for all states. I have an airbag light (I looked in the manual and it said the light could come up maybe from the seat belt not tensioning right, mines is kinda loose), an ABS light, and also the Brake light meaning the ABS module most likely went out. Thanks everyone.

Ok I think I finally figured out how to turn off privacy for my flickr album (2001 Audi A4 B5 2.8L)

Feel free to browse I'll be sure to update it regularly and make sure its understandable.

I bought mine with the abs and brake light on. I changed the abs module with one I found on Craigslist for 50 bucks, it's a pita to swap out, but I had never done one before. I had the codes cleared and it fixed the issue and I now have abs.

In case you need to remove the abs module to replace/repair, here is my procedure:

There are 6 long torx screws holding the abs controller to the rest of the unit that will need to be taken out, the top 2 you can see, there are another 2 in the middle and 2 and the bottom of the section, along with a plug at the bottom to undo.

The top 2 are easily accessed, the remaining 4 will require you to remove the fender liner to access them. While you're there, undo the 3 bolts holding the windscreen washer reservoir to the car, 2 in the wheel area, one holding the power steering reservoir on also in the engine bay. Start manoeuvring the windscreen tank out the fender liner, (wheel removed of course) and disconnect the pump and connector. Now you should be able to get to the bottom 2 screws for the ABS module and the middle 2 either from the top or through the fender.

There is a man at Reflextuning Who repairs modules for $75, hit him up here Link to Site (http://reflecttuning.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1)

Sorry for the long hiatus everyone... life got a hold of me, and i've also been trying to figure out a no start problem on my Audi.

Here is the problem I go to start my car, depress the clutch, turn the key and nothing but the lights go on so I highly doubt its the ignition switch. Before all this happened the Audi was parked on the grass for about 3 months and me being the dumbass I am didn't start it at least once a week. I got a letter from the court saying "I HAVE TO MOVE THE CAR BY CHRISTMAS" of 2014. Only reason I had to park it on the grass was cause my family has 4 cars already in the driveway (sadly they're all Toyotas and one Nissan) As of now 3/20/15 the car is parked in the driveway but you'll never believe how it got there, since the car didn't start and I had no tow cable my dad instead thinks it is smart to drive one of the Toyotas up on the grass and push the Audi onto the street I was so mad cause my dad made a deep scratch on the front and back bumper of the Audi. My dad proceeded to ram the car onto the driveway where it now lies. I'm still trying to figure out the no start issue but I think i've made progress into narrowing down what the issue could be.

Possible Culprits:
-Starter
-Ignition Switch (Highly Doubtful)
-Alarm System (Yeah you read that right, supposedly if the alarm system is triggered it can stop the signal going to the starter, its in the Audi Manual)
-Key Fob (long story but I think the problem is connected to the Alarm System)

Issues Fixed:
-Battery

I'm trying to start the car up by April (the car's birthday LoL) what do you guys say and help my Audi get started up by the time its Birthday comes around, please? Like always thanks for your input everyone, what ever you guys think will help let me know, thanks guys.

If you get the image url and click "insert image" you'll have it on here so we don't have to work so hard. (We're lazy bums)

Relating to your no start, do you hear a click when you try to turn it over? If nothing, then I would say starter OR neutral safety switch. I would start with the switch because it's cheap and getting to the starter is a whore

Thanks for the reply Bordom, i'll check again today to see if I hear a click and you right about the starter haha, but if it is the starter ECS-Tuning is currently having a sale on a Bosch Remanufactured Starter http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/ES1875/ so i'll check it out and keep you guys posted.

I'm extremely happy guys I finally got my Audi up and running, it was the Starter. The methods we used to take out the Starter didn't require us to remove a majority of parts if anything all we removed was the wheel and that was all we needed to gain access to the Starter. When we took a look at the Starter me and my pops immediately knew what was wrong.

The wire from the Solenoid to the actual Starter Mechanism was damaged to the point that it wasn't even there.

The Starter had to look like the one below (Bosch Remanufactured Starter)

me and my pops decided to Rebuild the Starter and it was ultimately a success.

Yeah I see the Hood too, LoL. I'm gonna fix the important stuff first then get to paint later on, hopefully plastidip and I heard they have been making big strides in the industry with their new top coat (supposedly mimicks a real paint job with the gloss and all)

Had to park it in the Garage, even though I got a four car drive-way (meaning I got four cars in the drive-way, sadly all Japanese)

Whats next is:
-Wheel Bearing (got the Wheel Bearing Puller Kit from Schwaben)
-Still might have to replace the N80 (Purge Valve)

After I replace the N80 I can finally get the car inspected

Then from there we'll see, till next time guys.

Seems like i'm causing this car more problems than good.

New Problems:
-Climate Control
-Parasitic Battery Drain
-Pulley not fully Engaging/Disengaging (A/C Compressor Pulley)
-Coolant (Unidentified Leak)
-Warning Light (Unidentified Symbol)

Old Problems:
-Wheel Bearing (got the Wheel Bearing Puller Kit from Schwaben)
-N80 (Purge Valve)

Climate Control was on the fritz meaning the Fan Speed would go High/Low, Heat wasn't working, I felt no air whatsoever, A/C wasn't working I believe I have to Recharge the A/C with some Freon but there was no Cap on the line and I can't seem to find the Cap anywhere online, since the Climate Control was on the fritz it lead me to mess with the Fuses (BIG MISTAKE) (my curious side got the best of me) I believe I shorted something. I have to jump the car every time now. I was checking what was Draining the Battery and I was lead to believe that Fuse 15 - Instrument Cluster, Power Windows, Climate Control, Automatic Transmission (10 Amps) and Fuse - Radio (20 Amps) they are all intact, I don't know what the Radio has to do with this but hey i've been surprised before.

How I Believe I Shorted it is I saw a extra 30 Amp Fuse in one of the unoccupied slots and proceeded to put it in Fuse 25 - Blower for Heating, Climate Control (30 Amps) I start the car and I hear like a small mouse squeak for 2 seconds and then the car died.

Took apart the Driver Side to gain access to the Fusebox to do my little Amperage Test

As I was recreating the Warning Light I was leaning more towards it Being a Fuse Icon, keep in mind this was already there way before I was messing with the electrical. Just to be sure can anyone confirm?

Hey guys haven't updated you all in a while so I thought I'd catch you up with whats going on, that Parasitic Battery Drain which I thought it was, turned out to be a bad battery... I honestly didn't think it was the battery since it was new and since I was messing with the Fuses/Electrical, yeah I felt pretty dumb after that. Now the car is running great I still got a few more thing to do to make this car up to date

Replace:

-Purge Valve (N80)
-Driver side Wheel Bearing
-Driver side Axle
-Driver Door
-Front Bumper
-Rear Bumper
-Hood
-Wheels (Possibly just Paint it)

I finally changed the Passenger side Wheel Bearing, it was too loud and once I changed it you can hear the Drivers side whirling now. Basically the Passenger side Wheel Bearing was covering the noise of the Drivers side... but I've been told that Wheel Bearings go out in pairs I just didn't have time to replace it, but will get on it real soon. The car is looking/sounding nice overall once I change a few things I can finally get it inspected, hopefully I pass.

https://flic.kr/p/xTv3Tm (heres a video of the car running and the exhaust sound, me personally I like it just like that)

Slowly but surely its getting there, my friend who is helping is very busy at the moment so this process has been long and slow.

On another note i'm making some moves on diagnosing the Climate Control problems,

Access the Climate Control secret codes by pressing and holding the recirculation button. Then press the manual flow control up arrow. You should see a 1c. Press the temperature up ("+") or down ("-") buttons to select a code number. Then press the recirculation button again. The value should display. Press the temperature up or down button again to display another code. This is the link for the codes http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int.html

In my case it looks like I might have to replace the:

-Blower Motor Resistor https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/Climate_Control/Electrical/ES2143386/
-Fresh Air Intake Duct Temperature Sensor (G89) https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/Climate_Control/Electrical/ES2500956/
-A/C Refrigerant High Pressure Switch (F118) https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/Climate_Control/Electrical/ES2525098/

04.1 (G89) -Fresh Air Intake Duct Temperature Sensor, static open
18.1 -Fresh air blower voltage, static
20.1 -A/C compressor voltage not OK - static
22.1 (F118) -A/C Refrigerant High Pressure Switch, static open

I really hope its not false codes (meaning I hope the Climate Control isn't fried and giving false codes for things that are working and don't need to be fixed) also I might just need to refill the A/C with 134a to correct the 20.1 and 22.1 codes.

On another note I finally bought the Purge Valve (N80) should get here in a couple days.

Car is looking, and sounding real nice. I definitely am a proud Audi owner for sure for sure despite the problems.

If any of you guys have advice about the Climate Control problems please feel free to leave a reply, i'm trying to get this fixed cause now that its getting colder my Windshield fogs up and I can't do nothing about it I have no A/C and no Heat.

Here for a 2.8 thumbs up

ShawnSV
10-20-2015, 01:28 PM
haha me personally i'm glad I chose the 2.8L, I prefer anything from a V6 and up.

On the other hand finally replaced the Purge Valve (N80) and the car seems to run better or that may just be a placebo affect lol, but it feels smoother, gas gauge isn't going all over the place. My dad was telling me that it may not necessarily have been the Purge Valve that was the problem but something deeper in the Evap System, Charcoal Canister perhaps or another Valve somewhere around the Fuel Tank, i'll let you guys know if the check engine light for code P0441 comes back tho.

Theres so much I wanna do to this car but I understand I have to fix the problems first, and like I said before I don't mind, i'm still trying to figure out the Climate Control issues and decided to check out the other sensors through the Climate Control Diagnostics, its all reading around 100 or more idk if it should be like that especially when its getting colder. I really wanna have the heat running before it starts getting really cold (lol I hate the cold hehe) if you guys can can you check out your Audi and go through the Climate Control Diagnostics and let me know what numbers your car is reading.

Hopefully when i'm done with my diagnostics I can figure out if the Resistor for the Blower Motor is bad or not, and I can easily see the (G89) -Fresh Air Intake Duct Temperature Sensor from within the Blower Motor housing looks like its easily accessible if you guys ever have to replace it I recommend you go this route if possible.

I'll let you know how things turn out with the Resistor.

Not sure of this will help or not but I just had to fix my heat. Turned out the heater core was plugged up. Flushed it out and got heat even if its a temporary fix. I checked the blend door motors and turns out they were both working. Probably easiest way would be to look underneath and left of the glove box while playing with the climate control. Like i said may jot be helpful and im not sure whats up with the ac

In other news I finally fixed the Blower Motor, I finally get air blowing, but still no heat I checked the Heater Core hoses and the inlet side (right hose) is hot, and the outlet side (left hose) is hot too,

This leads me to believe that air might be in the cooling system, how do I got about this?

Something else is that when I put the car in Reverse I hear a creaking, and I really feel like its the Suspension it only happens when I first start the car in the day and proceed to reverse on out the driveway, i'll see if I can get a video of it.

I found a oil leak on both sides of the Valve Covers, so i'll be replacing the Valve Cover Gasket soon, but I don't know if I should replace the Breather Hose also cause according to ECStuning (https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-V6_30v/ES1899536/) the oil leak can start because of back pressure in the PCV system

"Have you recently noticed that your car is leaking oil? This is a very common problem and is generally caused by the PCV and check valve, along with deteriorating breather hoses.

When the PCV fails, this creates back pressure in the system and blows out the valve cover gaskets as well as the cam seals, creating oil leaks. This can also cause cracks in the already weak breather hoses as well, creating vacuum leaks.

This kit from ECS includes the updated components known to cause problems and will have your B5 performing like new again."

As you can see I don't even have the Breather Hose attached hehe, that will be replaced as soon as possible.

I will probably make a DIY Valve Cover Gasket on how to change it and write it up as best as possible, till then...

Got a CEL for codes,

P0170 - Fuel Trim Bank 1
P0173 - Fuel Trim Bank 2

There is a few thing that can cause it to go off,

MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor)
Oxygen Sensor, I replaced that so I hope its not that.
Exhaust Leak, which I would regret it cause it makes my car sound real nice, has a nice low growl but I can't take shortcuts and pass this off as an upgraded exhaust system, so if I have to fix it i'll fix it.

I am beyond frustrated right now I lost my one and only Audi Key yesterday and I looked all over and retraced my steps, I can't believe this is happening. I will keep looking for it but right now i'm doubting i'll ever see it again so I think I might have to buy a replacement straight from Audi and use my VIN so they can cut the key, i'll keep you all updated

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, hope you all have a good one.

Update: on how the car is currently doing,

- Still haven't found my original key so i'll have to go to Audi for a new one (i'm expecting i'll have to pay alot for the key)

- I also got a ticket for my exhaust leak (inadequate muffler) hopefully I can get the judge to have some compassion and let me get off, of course i'll fix it and just upgrade my exhaust in the future to something that has a nice low growl, till then guys.

This Heater Core job is no joke, I started yesterday and am still having trouble removing a few parts. This really is a time consuming job and definitely a hard job.
