I currently own an S5 with Xenon projector headlights. These lights are awful compared to those in my prior Acura TL and other Acuras I drive next to on the road. I have long thought that Acura's projectors are the best OEM equipment out there. Hence, my question: Are Audi's LED's subpar to Acura's LED's like their projector Xenon's are? From what I've read on the forums, Audi's LED's are not much better than their Xenon's. They just look way better seems to be the consensus.
Rearding the S5, check:
- that the lenses are clean
- the headlights are not adjustet too short
- the Xenon burner are not too old
- colour temperature of the burner (Kelvin degrees)

I went from 2012 Acura tl to 2014 a7 with led. I think the audi LEDs are much better than the tl xenons. Probably even better than the tsx I used to have. Having said that, when I test drove the s6 with LEDs, I was very disappointed with the output. So much so that it swayed me to the a7. I'm a little bit of a headlight freak as well. I have modified every set of projectors I've ever had including retrofitting a set of s2k projectors, which are widely considered to be the best on the market.
As to the original question: Yes, the Acura LED's on the RLX are far superior to the Audi A6 LED's. I have not evaluated the LED's on the Acura MDX. I do agree that the Audi LED's give a similar illumination to the HID's but at a higher temperature.
I also believe that the Acura TL has better lights than the RL.
My first impression of the RLX LED's was that you never need a high beam, you can see plenty far on low beam. The high beam on both the Audi and the Acura lights up everything, not just the road and reflective paint on signs etc. are so bright that the rest of your image suffers from the contrast ratio created by the reflective surfaces compared to the absorbent surfaces.
The next iteration of LED lights from Audi will be the Matrix system but I have not read a report on how good they are but only on their concept. Unfortunately, the USA won't allow the Matrix system without a law change because the NHTSA wants to make sure that the US stays 10 years behind other countries with respect to automotive technology and innovation. Heck, the NHTSA won't even mandate rear amber turn signals.

My opinion is that the Audi Xenon high beams are much brighter than the Audi LED high beams, as evidenced by the nice semi-circle you see in the sky, but the LED low beams go out a bit further than the Xenons. And they do look pretty neat [cool]

None of these items are an issue. The light output is simply nowhere near as good.
