Hello everyone.
I have been a long time member and avid reader, but not quite the poster.
I am looking to buy an A7/A8 TDi and was wondering if the 3.0TDi motor in these typically outperforms the EPA estimates by 10-20%.
I own a C63 AMG and recently my commute went from 20 miles to 100miles/day and I added a Passat TDI. So, far I have seen a constant 50 mpg in 20 city - 80 HWY. The freaking thing is rated at 30 city 43 hwy.
I am planning to trade inteh C63 and the Passat towards an A7/A8 TDi by the end of the year and was wondering if someone could give me an insight regards the MPG numbers .
Thanks for reading it all.

I dont have a TDI but I am pretty sure you should be able to squeeze great mileage from it. I own a tfsi and it does surpass the epa estimates by 1.5-2 mpg every single time - 75h/25c . I calculate it at every pump visit - I dont go by the DIS numbers. Also, I tend to push the car every now and then, but I am ok with the mpg I am getting. I have hit 30mpg pure highway but that was relaxed driving, unlike my frequent triple digit sprints . Although for sure you won't get close to 50mpg - weight and power of both the cars is different which you know of already, but you'd be happy :)

I had an A7 TDI as a loaner for 5 days and I think the mpg was around 30 +/- 3.

A great tool that I show customers is Fuelly.com You can research the car that you're considering, and get real world, actual calculated numbers from people (not DIS readouts). My Q5 TDI (rated 24/31) has seen a real calculated average of 26mpg (DIS indicates 28mpg) but I do almost 100% city, and only for 6-7 miles at a time.
The A7 TDI is rated at 24/38, but a group of journalists achieved 42.5mpg average over 2600 miles or so when they did the "Truth in 48" trip.

My '14 A6 TDI averages, at pump, 32.6 MPG. My daily indicated is usually around 45 MPG, but no lower than 30 MPG. Even if you assume the 10% error on the display, that's still 40 MPG. I'm OK with that.
