Hey guys I was driving my audi a8 the other day and it died at a stop light. The car won't start up again it cranks but won't fire. I suspect It is a faulty fuel pump. Car has 168k on it. How do I check the fuel pump with a multi meter to determine if it is any good. Do I check for continuity or check for voltage? Where is the fuel pump relay located on this car I found the fuse but can't find the relay. Thanks for all of your help.

If the pump is gone, testing it electrically with a multimeter will be inconclusive.
You can only test the circuits that way.

Audi's flow test for the pump consists of running a hot wire to the down stream end of the fuel pump fuse.
This will run the pump bypassing ignition, so only connect when ready to test (or put a switch in it).
(Alternatively you can hotwire directly to the fuel pump plug as it is conveniently close to the battery - there's a risk of spark doing it this way, so if you do, use a switch near the battery end)
Disconnect the fuel return hose from the low pressure side of the fuel pressure regulator and use a short piece of hose to direct fuel flow into a measuring container of at least 1 litre/quart.
Now from memory, the test is to run the pump for 15 secs, after which there should be approx 800ml of fuel in the container.

The fuelm pump relay is in the relay box UNDER the passenger side carpet/pad...three screws to remove the mdf cover, then another to slide out the relay tray. Pop cover off of fuel pump relay and with ignition ON, push relay points closed...pump will run. If you pull the banjo bolt from the pump, get a straight hose barb with the same thread, rig up a lenght of hose and pump out the tank by pushing the relay closed.
Ignition switched on, push relay points closed and pump should run.
