Hey everyone. I'm interested in a boost gauge and wondering what brand/companies makes a good one. I've looked online and have seen then for 25$ and upwards of 250$. I'm not looking to brake the bank here, just something descent that with give accurate reads.

I have a glowshift that I got online for like $35 bucks. Seems pretty accurate, reads
~8psi. (I'm one of like four b5's left in the world with a stock tune.)

The ones I've seen for $200+ are typically electronic boost gauges... It appears that paying approx 70-80 will get you a quality mechanical boost gauge.

^nice. but my gauge panel is all red, not white. the facelift b5 I used to have had the white #'s and I hated it, I love my all red gauges on my 99 now

I believe you can get a red backlit unit from podi as well. You just have to specify that when buying it.

Doug.

I get plenty of air from all the other vents, and I don't like cold air directly in my face. The car cools down quickly even down here it only takes 1 minute for the car to feel comfortable. But to be honest I ride with no AC all the time and windows down just to listen to the car. I drove the car 20 times in the past year so its not like I need it every day. That is why I bought my 97 Honda for $600 as my daily. The Honda is amazing around town(46mpg) d-16 vtec 5 speed.

I also have a GlowShift gauge and it has worked great/accurate since 2004: Links provided below for gauge and 52mm pod that mounts on the top of the steering wheel column. IMO it's a great place while looking sharp!

I just don't see it necessary spending more than $60 for a gauge setup. My wifes jetta has a vent setup, however I like the column far better. Of course people have their own opinions, but just like I'd never spend $120 on a Forge 007 DV when I could have a 710N for $50, I'd never spend close to $100 for a boost gauge setup.

I know, right?! But alas, maintenance needs to be first. Control arms, tires, and a timing belt (plus components) change, and then I'll be ready.

I rode my stock clutch to 190K with running a Stage 1+ setup from 80K to that point, and believe me, I beat the living piss out of that thing. Even when I decided to change it out, I could've dragged it out for quite some time longer no doubt.

damn. I didnt know e85 had worse gas mileage. why bother. e85 is a horrible idea. why da fuk is there so many flex fuel vehicles out?

Because the Flex Fuel vehicles can shut down cylinders and conserve fuel. E85 is a great idea, I run E85 for Power and smoothness up the rpm range. E85 also keeps the carbon build up to a minimum. My b5 doesn't get driven more than once every two weeks. So I don't care about fuel consumption all I care about is power.

I've realized my clutch is toast, I was backing only a garage, the front wheels got caust in the lip of the floor, maybe a 2 in gap, and I could release the cluth all the way and it would just slip, the car didn't move at all, had to roll forward and get a rolling start.... So what should I get???? Lol.

Sorry for the delayed post...

Ready? You won't believe this!

1. Go to autozone.
2. Buy autometer gauge
3. Paint the silver part black by taping off the glass over the screen
4. Install in the center vent (cut carefully)
5. Wire that shit up and go to town.. Best $25 I have spent.. Let me look for a picture, or video..

Can't find one now.. I'll take one tomorrow..

How much do you want to spend? Stock power? Do you have plans for more power? What kind of driving do you do? City driving or 'burbs? Give us some info to work with here..

I could tell you to go 6 puck with a 13 pound flywheel all day.. But that wouldn't do you any good :)

Sorry for the attitude. I haven't hung around this section to much.. I just lurk when I have some time to kill.. Other cars that keep my attention :) Although, I do still have my B5 safe and sound.. A car that will never go, unless I part it out.

I know some people will disagree and that's fine, however I'd suggest a Valeo Single Mass Flywheel Conversian Kit (Part #52285615) if you're going chipped or K04. However, if you're going to be launching all the time, RA4 through ECS http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-Quattro-1.8T/ES1/ES5485/, difference in cost between the two is twice as much and QUALITY of course, hence the price difference. I got my Valeo kit for $299 on Ebay which is a good deal but average is $350 shipped, RA4 will run $600 with shipping. If you have the money, get the RA4, if you're on a budget and wont beat the piss out of it, Valeo will be fine. If you're keeping it stock, Valeo hands down.

Autometer ES (Amazon). It uses a red LED and it looks good. No need to tape or paint it.

I made a boost pod for the center vent.

It matches the gauge cluster.

And other boost gauges don't go up to 35 psi which I need :P

I know you have to defend your product, but theres nothing OEM about a gauge just sitting in front of an air conditioning vent.

Of course. By me saying "Our Vent Gauge Kit actually looks very OEM in person" I am referring to as if it came from the factory in the vent, this is how it would look. The vents are CNC'd and recessed for a flush fit.

I couldn't agree with JHM more. Their kit (as well as AWE's which I run) are hands down the best looking boost gauge kits. The pods are precisely machined, allow for airflow past the gauge, and look OEM.

x2 for the jhm gauges looking legit.
most people have to dremel and hack the crap out of their air vents to fit a boost gauge in there. and it often times looks kinda "ghetto".
i for one am glad we have people taking the time and money to design and machine such parts.

Your opinion quite often seems to be just to disagree with other people.

Don't make me bring up the PCV thread, or a more recent example, telling people that "they aren't sway bars, they are anti-roll bars" and that people that track their car would look at you like they had no idea what you were talking about if you said sway bar.

I do not. I have an upholstered A-Pillar cluster.

do "sway bars" promote sway or anti sway? common sense

and for the record since some of us dont know the definition of flush.

Deciding on a boost gauge is a really tough decision in someone's life. It's a love and loathe relationship that requires a balance of love, harmony, and intimate personal & emotional experience sharing. You're not only accepting that gauge as a reader of boost, but as an addition to your car - your family. If you are not 100% certain that you're ready to make this commitment, consider adopting one from the Foundation of Used Boost Gauges (FUBG).

PM me if you'd like to talk further about this emotionally stressful decision, and we'll get through this together.

There was a member on here who used to sell CNC cut vents to house 52mm gauges. Picked up 3 from him. 2 are currently in and not quite sure what to add for the 3rd.
