I'm thinking a built in type, escort 9500ci

Interested in any comments about the installation process. The shielded engine bay for example, I'm not looking forward to having that penetrated,

I'd like to know what other people have done?

Escort is the way to go if you want built in. I believe the new version uses re-branded Laser Interceptor heads for jamming which are top notch.

V1. Hardwired. End of message.

Hardwired V1 + Laser Interceptors or ALP is my favorite setup by far, but some people only want a hidden system...

Have hidden K40 system. Love it, but still deciding on which defusers.

Have custom installed Escort 9500ci (laser and radar). Saved me many times, and I love the stealth install (although not cheap).

+1 front and rear with jammers front and rear. Much better detection than any window mount I've ever had. Haven't had a chance yet to see how well the jammers work in person. But I did put a system in both cars.

If you're going to do a remote-mount, the best option (by far) is the Bel STiR Plus (https://www.beltronics.com/store/stir-plus.html). It has incredible range (especially off-axis), is undetectable by radar detector detectors, has GPS lockouts and can also be Ka band segmented (which minimizes falsing and allows detection of the briefest instant-on, even from a distance).

If you plan on adding laser jammers (ahem, parking sensors), the only viable option nowadays is ALP (http://www.alpriority.com/). Police forces across the continent are upgrading to newer LIDAR guns that use VPR (Variable Pulse Rate) that other manufacturers cannot even detect, never mind jam.

No affiliation, etc. Just well-read and current on the subject. I also have an ALP on my other car and plan on adding a system to the S6 soon enough.

+1 on STiR+ and ALP, I added a radar-mirror install I am very happy with it.

The lockouts are pretty nice.

Check out this thread (http://www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=36474) for starters. There's a ton of information on that site, if you spend some time digging.

Belstir+ or Escort 9500 built in radar.

ALP or Laser Interceptor quad jammers. ALP has best/latest laser gun defense.

Wouldn't leave home without both.

I agree Escort 9500

However me and the guys have used the V1 and we liked it, helped us get out of some sticky situations before

Don't get the Escort 9500ci. Instead, get the Bel STiR Plus and then add another brand of laser jammer.

The Bel STiR Plus is the exact same radar as the Escort 9500ci, but minus the laser shifters. The Escort Laser Shifters do not work well. You are better off with a Laser Interceptor or Blinder. I don't know much about ALP, but I will trust the recommendations on this board about it.

My primary point is that the Bel STiR & the Escort 9500ci are the EXACT same system, but the Bel comes without the laser shifters (which are worthless if you get a separate jammer).

The shifters in the 9500ci kit were recently upgraded from the crappy ZR4s to rebranded Laser Interceptor heads.

The Bel also has the unique feature of Ka-band segmentation (http://www.rdforum.org/content/band-segmentation-bs-and-radar-detector-rejection-rdr/). Trust me - it's a good thing.

Also, to repeat myself: Buying any laser jammer but ALP is like buying a radar detector without the ability to detect Ka band. Laser Interceptor and Blinder have not been able to fix the VPR gun issue for well over a year and many think their current hardware platform is incapable of being updated to do so.

Isnt the DragonEye the only common gun that LI can't detect? Either way it is a good point.

Some DALA/Laser Ally guns are proving problematic for LI/Blinder as well.

To belabour my point: Keep in mind that a laser jammer, due to the intricate install required, is not easily replaced if you find an unjammable gun in your neighbourhood. In my city, DragonEye (including DragonEye Cam) is everywhere and drivers with other jammers are completely unprotected.

Great discussion' I appreciate all the replies.

It's interesting to me that many people know what types of guns are in use in their area, is there a web resource to find this out? How are you guys figuring this out?

Why don't they work well? I had them on my R8 front and rear and got shot with laser well over a dozen times with no law enforcement interaction. Just recently installed the new 9500ci on my RS7......so far so good but I haven't been shot yet with laser.

The old ZR4 shifters were not very good compared to other options on the market. The updated LaserShifter Pro units (released this year) that now come with the 9500ci are great.

Canada is far ahead of the USA when it comes to the latest laser guns.

Most areas in the USA don't have laser at all, and only a few spots have anything as advanced as what you're talking about.

My Blinder is working just fine, and has saved me more than a few times already. By the time any police around me get better guns it will probably be time for a new car.

Thanks!

K40 is no good.

Get ALP/Anti-Laser Priority for your jammers. For radar- V1, 9500ci or Sti-R.

If you want the best get a
Stinger system but it is very very expensive

For what is likely $10k installed with the jammers, I am good with a few tickets.

I had the STIR-PLUS and blinder in an S5 - awesome combo, almost zero false alerts and never had any tickets. I would recommend STIR Plus and AL Priority. If you have the money though...the absolute best is the Stinger VIP...but just radar starts at 3k. With laser 5k.
