am looking for a family hauler and daily driver, am looking for something able to hold a child in the middle of the back seat between two baby seats, I also need a third row for sometimes. got twins coming, got a 7yo son one week on two and a 14 yo son 4 days a month, but he's slowly skipping days. I want great fuel economy and would like to stay euro(if I could). Buying used, preferably 2008-2009.

Im a vw tech since 1998, so working on cars don't bother me.

as for now my list goes like this:

mercedes R350/R320 (it's diesel seats 6 but heard some horror story on those!!!)

audi Q7 3.6

volvo xc90

GMC acadia

GMC thaoe (always love those but they drank fuel like crazy, so if I take this route, might get an older one 2002-2004 they are cheap, so that would compensate for the bad fuel economy.)

mercedes GL350 (reliability???)

Land rover LR3

any thought???

When I was first learning to drive years ago my parents had one of those Tahoes. That car was the most reliable vehicle I've ever seen. They had purchased it at 40k miles and drove it for 165k miles with virtually no problems in between. Some things needed replacing (thermostat comes to mind) but it never left anybody stranded. They were going to keep that car forever but being a Chevy and living in Pennsylvania it started to rust apart.

I love the LR3 too but seeing as its a Land Rover it'll refuse to start if you look at it the wrong way. Might not be the one to subject the family to, somehow no one can appreciate badass British engineering when you're pulled off the shoulder of the highway.
