View Full Version : Mod Friendly Dealers in LA?

Just curious if any of you could share your experience with dealer service departments in LA? My last two cars were kept basically stock so I was never too worried about it. I've had this one a week and am already starting the suspension mods this weekend.

I've bought all three Audis from Rusnak in Pasadena and have used them for service since they're really close to my house. That said - I asked about the TD1 situation, etc the last time I was in for service and was NOT happy with the answer I got from the SA. It basically boiled down to "we know everything, don't you dare."

I have no intention of tuning for a while, but would love to find a service dept that is not going to make a fuss if I end up with something like the leaking diff issue and use my springs to throw me under the bus for it. Not trying to beat the computer hookup - just looking for somewhere that isn't going to blow the whistle on visual only type mods.

Thanks!

i believe once the dealer hooks up their diagnostic equipment to your car, the data gets sent to Audi corporate and the dealer cannot stop it unless they don't plug in their computers...

Totally. Not trying to defeat that setup at all. I'm more interested in a dealer who isn't going to report an unrelated mod that wouldn't be defected by the computer (suspension, etc).

Anyone have any suggestions? Need to go in for my 5k service.

FWIW, I've done all my work at McKenna. I've been Stage II+ from day 1, along with other external mods, including coilovers etc. I just had my 35k service done a week ago. During this service, they found an oil leak, and fixed it under warranty, so they obviously had no issues with any of my mods. Also note that none of the old service managers seem to be there anymore - all new faces, so not sure what happened, or what will happen in the future.

+1 on McKenna. They've been really good to enthusiasts/modded cars from what I've heard and seen even at their car events.

Took my B7 A4 Avant to Downtown Audi for all service intervals while my Audicare was in effect. Lightly modded with APR stage 1, exhaust, sways, etc. No issues.

Who are you guys using as a service advisor at McKenna? I've got a warranty issue I need resolved that my local dealer is unable to rectify.

I've heard good things about these guys! Going to try them out, and they are my local dealer.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll probably be going there moving forward. Any word on loaner availability? Norwalk isn't exactly close for me so a loaner would be super handy.

If you're referring to McKenna, I've never had issues with loaners - got one for my 35k maint, even though it wasn't necessary (just didn't feel like waiting there). I'd give them a heads-up though, so they can have one ready. FYI - found out that Dan Ranciglio, who I used to work with is no longer there, so I've been dealing with Steve Russel ([email protected]). I don't really have any opinion on him yet other than he's been very responsive via email. Also, don't forget to tell them to skip the wash.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm also shocked I haven't seen you around Glendale after we met when I bought your sports suspension for my A4 back in the day.
