View Full Version : Full LED Headlight Retrofit Project

As many of you know, my car has the LED Ecodes. They really change the front end of the car completely. Pictures, especially iphone pictures, hardly do it justice. Most mods on the car were somewhat thoughtout but I'm a compulsive person at times. So
now I'm looking for something more aggressive with some of the RS parts that are coming in the next few months. And taking after Dawid's build on the S6, I am sold on getting these babies opened up and blacked out! They would match the black optic theme I have going on the outside. It was hard (impossible) to source a set of RS6 headlights with the black housing but I was more crazy about getting rid of that amber at the time.
Lightwerkz shot down the idea when I first proposed the project to them last year (headlights being impossible to open up and resealed to OEM look) but I have found a local guy that will be helping me with this build. Stay on the lookout for something special (and surprises) as we're looking to get crazy (I think we're already crazy). [evilsmile][evilsmile][evilsmile][evilsmile]

i have taken apart full led r8 headlights and it was same as other headlights in past the glue is crazy strong but taking the inside apart is not to bad i have seen inside a s6 led light and everything is plug and play just make sure to mark what is what the wiring inside is all black and some connectors can be same but have different functions besides that it shouldn't be to hard good luck !

Will do! Thanks. This might be a feasible DIY for those who don't want to drop the coin for OEM Euro Lights.

The plan is to do a DIY but it's a small project that might take awhile as I already have a few things with priority on my plate.

This project was very labor intensive. The permaseal on these headlights are rock solid. I should have some updates this afternoon and hopefully installed by the weekend.

There really isn't much to see unless you want to see the blisters caused by removing the seal. There's no easy way of opening them. This really shouldn't be a DIY lol

That's really amazing. So the RGB chips are in the crystals? I thought they were going to replace the DRL. More pics!
How much would you charge to do something similar on my rs5 headlights lol

I'm actually in the process of looking into this myself
HackDevil did his in his build thread and provided some basic instruction:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/698278-2013-Audi-S7-Phantom-Black-(Project-black-out)-build-Custom-interior-exterior?p=11526450&viewfull=1#post11526450
There was another really old build thread I saw of someone who did them and had more info and even offered to do them for people if interested or something. it was Silver 5 or 6 on bags and a lot of other mods, looked really good but I can't find the thread for the life of me.
Trying to find a local custom shop that might be able to do this for me, I don't want to screw up a new set of housing.

Lol. Seen these when i first came on to audi. Never thought of doing it cause this guy sold these after only having them a couple months and that was a red flag for me. I wonder if something messed with the light output
