View Full Version : S6 Rear diffuser options -help me decide
So I think I have figured out basically what I want to do, but am struggling with exact choices. I am opting against the RS conversion because this car is a daily driver and spending big $$$$ on a bumper conversion will piss me off if it gets dinged, scratched, etc., let alone seriously wrecked. So here are the choices for my Phantom Black car (cheapest to most expensive)
1. Matte black diffuser paint with a phantom black blade
2. Matte black diffuser paint with a carbon fiber blade
3. Phantom black diffuser with a carbon fiber blade
4. Carbon fiber diffuser with a phantom black blade
Please give your thoughts. Thanks. The CF pieces would be from Carbon Designz
I think it'll need to coincide with what you wanna do with;
1. Grey bits in front grille
2. Chrome window trims
3. Alu optic side mirrors
4. Rims
I feel the rear diffuser has to be part of the whole look of the car.
Otherwise it'll be a patchwork design [emoji12]

I would opt for version 1 out of that selection.
1. Depending on what you do with mirrors and other brightwork on front, I think satin black diffuser with stock blade is fine, but i like the phantom black blade idea along with phantom mirror caps if you are going black out look. . Satin black looks good with phantom black. I had satin black centers on my hre s101.
2. After my recent carbon fiber mirror cap experiment, I will tell you that the carbon fiber blade will be almost invisible (except to your wallet) from 10 feet away and will look like the wrong paint.
3 Phantom black diffuser might be ok, but I think the opportunity for contrast here is good. again, carbon blade is a weak contrast. If you have not seen it, check my carbon fiber mirror thread to see how carbon looks with phantom black. I think carbon might look better with brilliant black, but phantom has a bit of brown in it in the daytime to me, and the soft grey of the carbon and the soft brown of the phantom, is just weak to me.
4 Carbon diffuser might be ok, but same problem with weak contrasting phantom blade. If I went this route, I would strongly consider either stock brushed alu blade or gloss black which would match door handles and center window trims
So to reiterate, I would be more apt to consider #1 with a stock, phantom or gloss black blade

I guess I should mention that my car is Phantom Black with the Black Optic package so all the trim and mirrors are blacked out. My wheels are a dark gunmetal color.

VVG,
Had my rear diffuser professionally painted in a satin black. The horizontal metal/alum piece (blade?) down the middle of the diffuser pops out, leaving the rest of the plastic diffuser to be easily painted. I have brilliant black with chrome trim, which I personally like, so did not paint over the blade. Did not like the grey diffuser at all, hence the paint work. As for the front grille, I just had the 3 horizontal slats done in matte black vinyl tape. I did not want to blackout the entire grille, which meant painting just the 3 slats, which my body shop advised against due to the prep time involved and it not being worth it when it could be taped. My wheels are the OEM twin 5 arm 20" style. I also had the car tinted 35% all around except windshield. Very pleased with the overall results.
Think your car would look great with the diffuser painted in matte black to match the BO package. I would personally leave the blade alone, as it would set off against the chrome exhaust tips. Would not do the diffuser in Phantom Black as then there would be no contrast. You might want to even consider painting the diffuser in gunmetal to match your wheels. Good luck and be sure to post some pics when done.

plasti-dip to see how you feel about it...you can get a glossifier to get it more of a satin sheen [or gloss if you do many coats]

Just wait for the facelifted S6 to come out. It will have the same diffuser as the 2015 S7. It's a lot more aggressive looking.

Not sure how to post pics in a post. I have one pic of the rear diffuser in my photos section, and will add one of the front grille. The one of the front grille is being redone with wider tape to avoid a seam and with the license plate holes patched/sanded so they do not show through the tape. Got car from a state the required a front plate, and the dealer drilled holes into the grille.
