Long story short, i bough the tial 770 turbo kit before i even had the car. I did this, because to build an s4 that would satisfy my needs i would need allot of parts and money, which i didn't have at the moment. So i put the turbos on my desk at work and left them there :) 5 months went past and i bought a 2000 s4 with 185000km on it, bought it really cheap. The car was parked in the garage for 7 months while day by day i was buying parts and goodies for it. One year gone and this is what i have come to.

All disassembled and what we have is worn cam shafts and 3 bent valves. In 7 months owning the car i took it to two trips, ones when i bought it and parked it in the garage and the second one after 7 months when i was on my way to the mechanics to start the build. The timing snapped on the way to the mechanics :) The trans is rebuild with the jhm kit and ready for action.

We have very similar builds. Sans "built" 2.8 heads.... Is that Boris' black powder coated manifold? Who is doing your tuning? Sorry if I blasted through and didn't pay attention to details that may have answered my questions. Did you have to mod the engine mount brackets? For the inlets to fit?

Congrats, have fun with it..

Btw, just built and tuned an 05 sti with a vf34, car is a blast to drive!!! Cobb everything, my customer spared no expense.... Low end push was amazingly fun in that car.

Intake manifold is from naudlee but after dyno i will be putting an rs4 intake with the rs4 throttle body to see the gains. I live in Moscow, and the tune is going to be done by a local guy who has build and tuned his own A6 2.7 with top mount GT2860RS( he also did all the work with the welding on my build) The inlets actually turned out better fit than the 034 rs4 replica inlets(no modding the mounts) My sti had 380hp with Tomei M7960 turbo nothing special :)

Heres the A6 of the local guy who is doing my tune, im sure you guys have seen this car on audizine.

Yes I had them on my S4 (the OG Stratmosphere valves), they were fantastic and never let me down. That said most piston types will out live the car probably.

curious of the power levels on that 2.7 block that the A6 got....hrm. build specs would be interesting.. im assuming a girdle or bedplate of some form was used; less than 750-800whp would be a minor let down..

gonna search the A6 build section now..

Little update for you guys. I had my engine assembled and ready to go in the car and the night before it was going to happen i decided to go with the girdle. Big thanks to Monty for leading the way how i should do it properly.

The weird thing i found was that the total finished torque is 55lbft in the eurospec manual. I had arp main stud kit from 034 and i clearly remember final torque was 100 ftlb. I checked the markings and they are both the same arp 7-16 20 studs.

The difference between rs4 oil pump and s4.

And got the final part for my full upper rs4 intake.

Not only the spacers are different length in the girdle kit. The whole girdle it self is almost made in the bent shape. I wont give up

This girdle is nightmare, every time you put it on and take it off the clearance in the same place is always different. Found a shop that can do exact machining of the main bearing caps spacers. But its still going to be touching the block where the oil pipe goes in, the place where the hole is. Is this ok?)

No i haven't. Im confused a bit. The two measurements i have to take on the girdle are one on the right side and one on the left side? Or does the clearance have to all the same all way around? Because i ran into the problem where the girdle is already siting on the block, but the gap is still big between the girdle and the block. I will show you a pic so you can give some advice on this thing.

I took measurements with the girdle torqued down at 6 places. 3 measurements each side. And machined the spacers to get a gap of approximately .001" for example I had an average gap of .012" so I marked on the girdle what gaps were where and removed the girdle. I machined the spacers in relation to the measurements I took and reinstalled in the same position.

My end result was .0015" gap between the girdle and block once torqued down.

Lots of added time in my personal build because of this crap. But I've gone this far getting it to fit there's no turning back now.

Also wait till it's time to mount the oil pump [headbang]

Question about the girdle. I don't have any experience regarding it so maybe my question is retarded. Has the surface it mates to been machined to be flat? Meaning, how do you know the girdle is the issue and not the other side? The block from the factory did not need to be toleranced on that end correct?

It is absolutely the girdle. Although the bottom of the block doesn't have any factory tolerance specifications it is still a machined surface from the factory. I'm pretty sure all engine blocks are machined in this location.

I think the parts that the bearing caps are on are toleranced but outside of that it isn't. I know every surface is machined but toleranced is a different question.

This is the problem. Most machine shops will only do as good of a job as you require of them. They tend to be much more lax with the builds and people that are lax with them. And it is tough for the average person to verify the work themselves if they don't have the measuring equipment, or if you have the machine shop install the stuff for you. It is critical to go with a machine shop that you really trust to do a good job.

So if i do 3 measurements on the left side and 3 on the right side. There is no need to measure the girdle on the side of the clutch? I mean i have run into an issue where the girdle is hitting the block on corner of the block but a little bit closer to the block there is a gap 0.14mm. Even if i take some metal of the spacers it wont go smaller. But this is all happening on the side of the block where the clutch goes. You can see it clearly on the pic i posted

Havent done that much work on the girdle as i have been busy on work. But good news it settled down perfect and the clearance is 0.020 all round the
Block. Measured the crank with plasti gauge with the girdle torqued down and its perfect.
Today gonna start doing the oil pump and the oilpan. Is it safe to have your surgetank under the hood ? And some goodies on the pics

Changed my ecu from a 2002 allroad and some of the problems went away. My afr got to normal and i can see my egt sensors now. Also we finished the fuel lines and the oil cooler. Started changing the rear brake disks with 034 conversion kit to 300mm disk. As always they sent me wrong parts and banjos. In all 17 packages i ordered from them 2 came with the right stuff.

Also my diff mount makes allot of vibrations, doesn't feel nice, makes you paranoid.

This is my friends car with bel block and custom made girdle with out off strong metal. Its the copy off well known company girdle but just with stronger metal. It will be a good moving rs4 with eliminators turbo kit and 3L.

Timur, can I show in your thread one photo of my tiny 1.8T build (in process) on my A6 C5 (yes there is no such car in USA ;) ).

Yea, on Saturday gonna start installing meth and final tune. It's weird im running 2.3 bar and the car doesnt feel like its moving. Although it shows good 100-200 times. [emoji19]

Hmmm. How much boost were you running before? ...and where does it feel like your car is lacking; in the lower range of the rpm band? In any event, I'm wondering if 29psi is a little light for your 770s...Where do you think you'll end up once you're fully dialed in?

Have to keep in mind one other thing...you and I (especially you) went about this the hard way. By that I mean we basically tore into our S4s and replaced a majority of the OEM setup. Makes the car much tougher to tune. Sometimes I wonder if a simple fuel/turbo swap and a mild Stg3 tune would not have been a better solution.

...and yeah, I should have my meth kit by Friday. Thinking about initially running a 30/70 (meth/h2o) spray to see how things play out (I'm on e85). Tuner thinks that will be the optimal mixture. Keep us posted. Anxious to see what you think about the car with meth added in.

I'm running 33psi, and the car runs good. A problem started occurring with the chain tensioner. Its throwing a p1522 code, which explains the power loss i was talking about earlier. It never ends i guess. e85 is great, if we had e85 i would never run meth in my car. Im planing to run 50/50 meth. I'm running mafles and my car is running really well tune wise. My tuner even disassembled ecu code for the esp to work without the maf. My meth kit is aquamist hfs-3, it has a failsafe signal which were going to connect to the ecu so that if something happens it cuts the throttle or even changes the fuel maps. We have put 6 nozzles in the intake runners to kill the retards and two nozzles in the bi-pipe 0.3mm to cool down the air. I have no idea what im going to end up putting down on the wheels. The only restriction part in my car is throttle body its stock s4.

Unfortunately had to pull the engine due to cam wear issue that was bothering the car for a while now. It all started with 034 solid lifters wrecking my cams. The lifters 034 sent me were all different size and shape, there is a separate thread i made if you guys wanna see. I changed my cams and installed stock lifters but unfortunately the beds of the cams were worn as well. So now i pulled the engine again to finish up all the little stuff. Before pulling the engine i visited the dyno and the car made 595whp on 93+ meth50/50. On the dyno we noticed another problem that seemed to be a hole somewhere( why i say seemed, because without maf sensor its hard to tell by logs that there is a hole) It ended up being ER intercooler that had a hole right in the middle where it's impossible to fix it. Send it back to ER so they change it or fix it. With this big hole the cam ran 100-200 6.4sec.

Loving the progress on this car. I'm debating my BBK options. If I go with 18z Brembos I will match those with the Girodisc rotors, as you have done. But I want to run a rear BBK as well and to mount Brembo calipers in the rear I have to source brackets that run around $250 a piece. Any plans for a rear BBK on your car?

My other option is a 6-piston 356x32mm front and 4-piston 330x28mm rear Ceika BBK (http://www.ceikaperformance.com/) that comes with an integrated e-brake (supposed to work with our OEM cables). Been quoted a total cost of around $3.2 USD for both F & R, including shipping. This kit is said to have everything needed to bolt up directly to the B5S4 uprights. Still on the fence between the two...

Are you planning on 1/4 mi or 1mi sprints in this beast when finished? Hoping to see it on dragtimesinfo sometime soon :-)

I bought 17z and almost installed them, but then i had a ride in a s4 with 18z. I was shocked, as i hung on the seatbelt when he floored the brakes. Then i quickly sold my 17z. Got 18z for 380$ fully rebuild and painted as you see on the pics. I have to say some stuff are really cheap in Russia compared to where you guys live. As for rears, i can quote my friend who makes these adapters for 4pot from Porsche. As for my self i will leave the b7 rears. I don't like the idea of loosing the e-brake.

Built for kievka-club races. You can google it if you don't know what it is. If i wanted 1/4 times i would never choose b5. I would get an s2 and make it an 9sec car.

What fuel pumps are you running? If they are 044's they will make a lot of noise if the feed pump in the tank is bad or if your fuel filter is clogged causing the cavitation of the pumps.

The only thing i can think of is when i first started her up it had more then half tank. Now its almost at min fuel.

Corradovolksb
03-20-2016, 04:55 PM
Yah that could make a difference if the fuel is being sucked up faster than it is able to flow around the pumps that could cause the extra noise.

So the car is back on the road. Had a little issue with oil leak from the front of the engine. Took us a long time to find out where it was leaking from. Had to disassemble the whole front end and refill all the fluids again. I went to unlim500+ afterparty and had a chance to test my car. Without meth it runs 6.4 100-200km/h on 98 fuel from gas station and 2.8 bar boost ))). I came to a conclusion that this whole setup is a waste of time on normal gas. I need minimum vp109. In short time i will be filling it with vp109 adding meth and going to test it. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/7c73f478327ad94120811a20b75b91f3.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/64e3f2579d712c80b2fee09d20cd6971.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/c47e2ba280d27081861f54e84eedba64.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/e5df847621e1a23ddf1376ec2d4eb446.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/960457c1defb40152068046be0ea3e7e.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/26030077242e302dcbe4479b0fb3ac4e.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/d188cb3238fa38d483a82ef740b6a3a5.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/e1131a2a488b5c7acd104e5bce68acec.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/05af3f0d2d3fa60c5254a7bf26366ec5.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/7f588f09be1f325fac910d703c17f798.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/80aa29c744a5c4dc8e75aa45abbab848.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/5057e5fb5d60a4bab51d40f78dc28d49.jpg

Both :D, kind of.
Time itself is decent but at that stupid crazy boost level time is not good at all. You must be running zero timing. Don't know your specs but for a reference I ran with my heavy avant 6,3s 2,0-1,9bar on colder weather (stock pistons/CR) and I'm not happy with that time.

Good thing is these turbos seem to make a lot of boost (but no flow?) but aren't at their efficiency zone anymore.

The timing(6) pulls back by itself, because the fuel is crap. If we had e85 that would be good.

Same euro 98 pump fuel here. Surely it's crap compared to E85 but good as pump fuel.

Half serious question but is your timing 6 degrees or is it pulling 6 degrees :)

Cant compare euro fuel to Russian fuel. Timing is 13, gets pulled to 8-6. Its because of fuel, we have really bad fuel in Russia.

Not too bad at all! And cars look awsome!

Are you talking ms109? Thats the stuff i use at dragway for my race tune. It really opens the car up!

Its oxegenated and theres dynos to prove hp gains without adjusting anything in the computer. I seen as much as like 35bhp gain on a youtube and My cousins corvett gained 17 hp after 3 back to back runs on each gas type ( obv after drainimg fuel then leting car drive for 10 minutes on dyno)

I did high 6s, which I think is bad. I've never had a chance to time it with the "good" configuration.
I am finishing a new build with large heads, upgraded valve train, new fuel system etc. I hope to get bellow 6.
My friends are rising the bar here with single turbos, one 665awhp and the other 771awhp. They are doing low 5s.
