so im at 9000 miles on my stock s6....with intake lol
pirelli 19s
but stock tuning. i typically always drive in sport shifting like mad. i am a maniac behind the wheel, and every chance i get, i swoop that speedo.
ok ok i get it..
so my tires at 8500 miles were starting to slip and slide in the rain. now at 9,000miles they are hard as bricks and done for. toast. caput. trash. another mans treasure.
who else at 9000miles, had to get new tires. it seems too soon, i know pirellis are great tires with terrible tread wear ratings, but seriously 9000 miles?
and my alignment at audi is 1k$$$ OR MORE because of my driving electronics(loaded)
i must say tho, even on slicks, the quattro is outta this world in handling and recovery from hydroplaning. the slippy slidey the car does is increadible with controllable feel.
still!!!! 9000 miles? cmon..... so in the end, i need to know what size tires is everyone using? stock? alittle wider? sticking with stock rims. i want a wider tire and not that stretched look i have.
i used to love the bfg gforce kdw tires on my 335i

blah blah blah,,, all that ranting i did and i got outa focus.
the real questions i need answered.. how long did everyones stock tires last, how did you drive it?
and what tire size did you go to and what tire size can i fit on the stock s6 19 inchers.

I think you've answered your own question. The OEM rubber is a high-performance compound and will wear quickly if you engage in continuous driving shenanigans. If you want longer-lasting tires, find something with a harder compound, but keep in mind that it won't perform as well.

i can deal with at least 10,ooo miles but not 9000. i just want to know what tire size options i can safely fit on my stock rims

The oem pirellis lasted me 20k miles. But I hardly did any afterburner driving from redlights and stop signs. I did hit 120 a lot of times but it was a smooth pull. Honestly those were horrible tires when I look back compared to the michelin pilot super sports I have on now. The handling has completely changed . Best tire in my opinion!

1. What driving electronics are you referring to? Do you have a lowering module?
2. A 255 tire on an 8.5" wide wheel is not stretched at all. It is really a great fitment. In fact, a 255 on a 9" wide wheel would really optimize your contact patch. You don't want anything wider on the stock wheel. FYI, I am running a 265/35/20 Michelin Pilot Supersport on a 20x9 wheel. Looks and feels great. Ideally, I would run a 265 on a 9.5" wide wheel. Anyway, with the stock wheel width, I would not go wider than the stock 255s.

FWIW, my first set of Michelin Pilot Supersports (265/35-20 on 20x9 wheels) lasted 13K. I was able to get new tires prorated to Michelin's 30K warranty so I don't feel too bad about the low tire life. I like to drive the car as an S-car is meant to be driven, so my tires typically don't last too long. I only put 2K miles on the stock Pirellis so I have no data to share on those.

S6Jouster is probably referring to the alignment requiring re-calibration for the surround-view cameras, automatic cruise control, etc. which adds additional costs to the basic alignment.

even the best of the best performance car racers would agree, that with car seeing no track days, and just hard daily driving, 8500, miles is a little slack. i mean cmon, they stick the pirellis on knowing the slack tire wear...why not just give us the michelin pss instead...i will continue to drive as i drive, and will report back to the mileage i see out of the PSS

and im not even complaining, im just flabbergasted by the alignment prices, and the fast tire wear of a high quality tire. i guess it was just too soft.
and on another note,
the tires wore own exceptionally even at all four corners. would everyone recomend the allignment anyways because of the new tires? car tracks straight and has no issues.

If the tire wear was even and the car tracks straight, don't worry about an alignment.

Yeah man. 9000 miles is unacceptable.

well going tonight to drop it off, i think ill hold out on the alignment if the tread measurements are good, the car does track straight, and has no issues. only my spacers causing slight vibes, but i do believe that is because out of wack balance after wearing down the tires...does anyone know if audi roadforce balances their tires?
i came down to the michelin PSS..i guess thats the general consensus on the best tire.
id like some input on ones who went with the Pilot Super sports as a second set, compared to the OEM tires.
