Hi guys,

Exactly a week ago, I had my brand new AWE full exhaust (with resonated downpipe) installed with the 102mm black tips.

To my horror, I noticed this morning that one of the tips was missing. Doing a quick inspection, I noticed that the tips were soldered with a single soldering tack each (that obviously broke off with the vibration). I was able to pull a second one off easily just by shaking it a little bit.

I emailed Joe at Tag Motorsport and he quickly explained to me that the tips should be installed with clamps.

I won’t name the shop that did the installation for now, but I can say that I am not impressed with the quality of their work … and believe me of not, this shop is specialized in Audis and Porsches.

So two little questions:

1. Do you know if the clamps for the tips were provided with the kit?

2. Anyone of you could take a quick shot of the muffler and tips to show me how they are holding together? A simple smart phone picture would do. I would like to use it as a reference when I’ll go back to the shop.

I am still really happy with the exhaust system; the installation is to blame at 100%. I could not believe my eye that such a thing could be done in a well known tuning shop. I expect them to pay for the missing tip.

Thanks guys …

Ho the exhaust is fine ... it was just badly installed.

What do you mean? Is the APR does not have the tips as separate parts?

Wonder why the clamps weren't included given the price of the system...

Mine came with the clamps, it was basically a screw that was attached to the piece coming off the rear pipe

There are slight variations between the tips for our B8 and B8.5 S4 exhaust options. 90mm tips have an integrated clamp, whereas the 102mm tips have a separate T-bolt clamp. In either case, the hardware is included.

Frag, your system should have included clamps, they're outlined here in step 9 of the install manual. I'll be sending you a PM shortly, I'd like to help resolve this and also find out who the installer was so that this doesn't happen in the future. [:)]

Yes, you can get SS or black diamond, they have threads in the pipes with 3 screws per tip that hold them on.

Conclusion of the story ...

The shop agreed to replace the tip free of charge since the initial job was poorly executed. Within a week, the shop received the new tip from AWE Tuning. Not bad at all, considering that I live in Canada.

I want to take a minute to thank Zack at AWE Tuning who followed the entire story closely while making sure I would receive the part quickly. I never requested his help and he was the one who contacted me first. This is a very professional behavior and I wish that more businesses would follow that path. I will surely do business with them again.

This being said, the tips are now rock solid and I enjoy the mean look of those 4 x 102mm Black Tip :)

Great end to the story.

Glad we were able to get everything resolved. Now, go enjoy that exhaust! [up]
