So I thought of waiting and then I thought that's stupid.

So I went to the track this morning after 4 days of owning this amazing toy

My first run was 13.4 with traction control on (tires slipped abit)

The next run at 11AM and temperature around 70 was a 12.93 as pictured here. Traction control off and dynamic mode

The next run was with launch control and I only managed a 13.01. I'm not sure why but it seemed that with launch control my take off was slower.

I'm very happy with the way my first track day turned out. As the day progressed temperatures reached 80+ and I couldn't do any better.

Any suggestions for better times from anyone? This is a 100% bone stock car http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/3utugy2a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/8asyzy8a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/epevenu4.jpg

This may be a stupid question but do springs or coil overs affect performance or solely look?

I will not do off roading but winters are pretty bad here so I wouldn't want the car too low.

I thought I read somewhere here in the past that these cars actually are faster off the line if you just mash the pedal at the same time you release the brake with your left foot.....instead of using launch control

1. can anyone confirm this or link to numbers that prove this?
2. I would imagine with giac dsg software, or upcoming apr dsg software launch control (at higher rpm launch point) would be faster

300 kliks….and a run in the 12's…WOW..let it break-in and loosen up a bit. I am thinking that may improve things a bit..S

The launch control feels very brutal. It settles at around 3,500 rpm and then I let go of the gas and it takes half a second and then a bang.... It feels faster but for some reason, times are slower.

Do wider/better performance track tires help with acceleration times on 4wd cars like these?

I don't have launch control and have not taken my car to the track as of yet..Just holding a little bit (maybe 1000 rpm) against the brake and mashing it doesn't seem to break traction to any great extent..There just isn't a ton of torque at low rpm..I am running Pilot Sport A/S 3's, and if they are breaking loose, they are being pretty quiet about it.

Audi doesnt have break in rules/guidelines?...you do this with an M3 or GTR and warranty go bye bye.

Granted, gard to say for sure if doing this is actually bad for engine or tranny.

Yes Audi does have a break in period. But my dealership and salesmen recommend driving it like you stole it from the beginning.

Also, reading these forums, everyone recommends a hard break in if you want your car to perform and so the engine doesn't drink oil.

That is very fast for stock! so what was your technique for the 12.9 run?

My GTR came from the factory with 40 track driven miles as does all GTRs. I beat the piss out of my gtr and never had any warranty issues although I haven't had any tranny or engine problems just a bulb and ignition problem.

Staged regularly. Took TC off and put it in dynamic. Left foot on the brake and when the last light hit, I mashed the gas :)

It was quicker doing this then LC and trying to regulate RPM's.

I dont care what they say, Im babying a new engine for at least a couple thousand miles. Thats just me and Im very methodical and OCD though.

I don't think I could baby the car even if I wanted to! Knowing at the top of my foot is all this fun!

^^^ is this your first forced induction car? If it is, that's not the best way to get the rings to seat securely onto the pistons. That's how you get oil consumption issues. If it was a N/A motor car, it's a ill different. Any car with boost, drive it like you stole it.

LOL. Nice break in period

I noticed the car loosen up quite a lot after 5k miles...

I'm a Motoman guy, which basically means I believe any 4-stroke engine benefits greatly from full-throttle use at the start of its life as long as it is throughly warmed up first. Not sure where bwoy got the part about induction making a difference, I've never heard that.

Then why does GTR manual tell you to go to softest suspension settings and not take off VDM and drive it like a granny until break in over?...and the guy who went to the dealers sponsored GTR track day and they won't cover his tranny cause he supposedly raced his essentially stock car at the track...doesnt matter what Nissan did with your car before you got it but if "you" do it before break in over, from a legal standpoint, your warranty is void...now most dealers won't be jerks about it but some will no doubt.

You have a lot more faith in your dealer and Nissan than I would...but its always good until something happens.

^^^ Problem is, some of you have no balls to fight the dealers or manufacturer on issues where they know they're wrong. Big business will tell you one thing and hope you cave. More of you should call their bluff and you'll see how quickly they change their tune to just make you go away happy.

How would the dealership know if someone is "babying" the car or of someone is "pushing" the car. Is this information all readable through the computer?

The dealer told us that as well when we picked up the B8.5. When did that change? We were very gentle when breaking in our B5.

Is this just due to closer machining tolerances? I'd think that any metal parts could use at least a short break in period followed by an oil/filter change to get any bits out of the motor...

My dealership recommended a "break-in period" of 600 miles. Simply put: Try not to hit triple digits more than a couple times and not to be tempted to use LC until after 600 miles. Whether or not this has a major long term impact on the car- who knows.

In my belief these cars are tested very thoroughly and pushing it from the get go will not damage anything. Think about demo cars that people buy with 3,000-6,000 km. these cars are pushed like crazy and still resold.

Very impressive times. How sticky was the track @ Napi?

At this point, the only way to improve your time is to add bolt-ons (intake, exhaust) which my dealership (Prestige in DDO) is OK with and won't TD1 your car. The 18" wheels are probably helping as I'm quite positive they're lighter than the stock 19" peelers.

I didn't have a problem hooking... Or at least it didn't feel like it

My supercharged mustang... Now that would never hook up!

Prestige in DDO is my dealership as well!

For what I heard dealer has nothing to do with TD1. When they hook up your car for diagnostic the VIN is automatically checked and ECM too.
All the info sent to Audi for further claim denial...

Any stg2 in Montreal that would take me for a spin, need to see if it's worth 3K.

If you guys are patient enough, I will get the REVO Stage 1+ pulley/tune (equivalent to Stage 2 in other brand) once it arrives in Canada soon.
Meanwhile I already have my baseline at ICAR (13.1s~13.2s @108mph) when I was stock. I would be curious what time I will run with my stage 1 93 tune...

But one sure thing, once you taste it, you can't stop, so you guys better save time and money and go straight to Stage 2 tune with an intake/exhaust.
Don't waste money like me trying all kind parts and brands...

Have you tried you car at Napierville yet?

I am on the fence about whether or not to mod this car... I would cry spending 3 grand for mods and then have a problem and be out of warranty...

Never tried the S4 at Napi yet.

If you guys are scared to have problem with the dealer, then don't do any tune. I did had problem with Audi Prestige when I was tuned Stasis, they reflashed my ECU without permission and I lost my tune...even if I told them not to plug the ECU...screwed 1800$ tune because the stupid advisor didn't communicate it to the mecanic...

I switched to Audi Lauzon in Laval and every time they ask me if I have a tune....you clearly see they're mod friendly. Even the mecanics wanted to talk to me and ask questions about my mods.

I would suggest you guys to start with intake & exhaust....can't calm down your mods fever? Next level could be upgrading brakes & suspensions.....then after that, if you're still intoxicated and always want more, you are mentally ready to play with the warranty risk and pull the trigger for a stage 2 tune.

It really depends on what you prefer and what's your budget....You want higher or low supercharger whine sound? Lowest price? Carbon look?

Since I owned/tried all of them, I would suggest you these:

-Roc Euro for higher supercharger whine (CTS intakes has the same design too for a bit less)

-AWE or APR for the nice carbon look but more expensive

-Eurocode TRUFit for the sound and low price

Oh and please don't buy intakes or exhaust thinking you will gain a lot of HP....your butt dyno will try to convince you [drool]
