Entering downtown Pittsburgh on my way home last week, the low oil pressure warning light came on. It was some time before I could safely pull over (2 bridges, 1 tunnel). The car starts and runs, but there are very bad noises coming from the engine. Mileage is 155K, and by all other counts the car is in great shape. But I've already put over $1K in repairs this year, and I give up.

I'm planning to sell the car. Is $2,500 unrealistic to ask?

Thanks in advance. The car is a 2006 FWD "red T!", 6MT with H&R/Bilstein/AWE suspension upgrades. In all other respects it's still a very nice car that I had planned on driving for a while longer.

Stop trying to start the car before pressure drops too much and you seize the engine.

It could just be the pickup tube is clogged, add some oil and see if the light still comes on. I would sell it for at least 5k unless it is truly fucked. Is the car is terrible condition inside and out?

It all depends if the engine is trashed... Blue Book is around 5k for a good condition car that runs. Can you take it to an independent shop and see what they find? It might be something small! Or... You might get some decent money if you have the time to part everything out though! :)
