View Full Version : Trying to decide on which exhaust....

I have listened to every YouTube clip I could find and have used the search function on this very helpful site, and I am thinking I am going to go with the AWE Touring/resonated exhaust. I just would like to hear from those that now have or have had this particular exhaust as far as build quality, fit and finish and sound (I am looking for more of the exotic sound rather than a V8 sound). Also, for those that have the 102mm tips, how do you like the size? Too big? And being that my car is black, I know it's my choice, but Black Diamond or silver tips? Would just like some ideas from those that either have this set-up or just your opinion!!

Thanks for your thoughts!!!

AWE with the resonated downpipes is a very exotic sound. What I was going for (in lieu of the V8 sound) and that's what I got. No regrets.

I also have black diamond tips and like how they go with my car (phantom black).

I've had them for 3 months now and quality seem to be good.

Thanks brooklyn86, I appreciate it! It sounds like this is the right exhaust for me! I am thinking about a road trip down to San Diego to let the experts at AWE do the install.

Do you have the 90 or 102 mm Black diamond tips? I like the looks of the bigger tips, I am just hoping they are not TOO big! One of the good things about having AWE do the install (besides the fact that they know what they are doing!), is that I can see both size tips on the car before I decide!!

I have resonated downpipes and I love it, many compliments from people. I have 102 black diamond tips, I don't like chrome or silver on my car so I like the look. It kind of makes me want to get the deval diffuser but they don't look out of place to me.

Thanks Pilfer! I will be calling AWE asap to set-up an install appointment! I think the 102 black diamond tips will look great on my Phantom black S4!! Can't wait for the awesome sound and possibly a FEW extra HP!!!

Not quite that awes quality meets the exceptions of their competitors APR and Miltek's systems.

Not quite sure what you mean? Are you saying that AWE's quality does not measure up to their competitors (i.e. APR and Miltek)? What is this based on....personal experience????

I have AWE resonated system on my 3.0T S5 and the sound is intoxicating, especially WOT! Manufacture quality is spot on, you will have no regrets. I have black tips (on Ibis white black edition) and suits perfectly.

Another thumbs up for the AWE with resonated DPs. Sounds awesome at WOT. Still gets alittle drone-y at times, but im nitpicking.

I dunno about the extra HPs tho. ;)

+1 => Exotic sounding is accurate. I spent a lot of time choosing.
This is the vid that locked it in for me... It's an old vid but it's quality... I'm sure you've seen it.

I have to 90 mm ones and they look good but unfortunately the bigger ones weren't available when I bought mine

is the finish on the black tips still hard to maintain?

Currently waiting in front of a tuning shop near Montreal, waiting for it to open. I have two huge boxes (downpipe and catback) with me. Cant wait and see and hear those 102mm bad boys tonight!

Just picked it up ...

Holy hell I am a happy camper! Very smooth rumble on normal drive ... quite a beast when you push it hard. No drone at all.

I have 2013 DSG, and took the resonated downpipe... ho and those 102mm look bad ass!

Do you mind me asking what you paid for the install? I was quoted $420 for the install at AWE???

Check out ModBargains in Orange County. I purchased my exhaust from them and they installed it for a lot less. PM me if you want more details

Thanks brooklyn86! I just got a response from Joe at AWE and he explained that he always add extra time on to an install just in case there are unforeseen issues with the install. As I figured...he said his installers are pretty adapt at installing the exhausts, so they get done pretty quick. And any time that is saved comes off of that initial total. I can't see anyone doing it any quicker than the guys that do it every day!!

I have had both APR and Milltek resonated on my '11 S4 and I can attest to the Milltek build quality being better. The Milltek combined with EuroCode headers has a very sophisticated sound quality and no drone. Loud at WOT, but not raspy like the APR.
