View Full Version : Bluetooth Slow to connect?

So i made a thread a couple weeks ago but i figured I would ask a slightly different question. When you first get into your S4's, how quickly does your phone pair to the car? In my 2014 it takes probably a good 30-45 seconds every time for the MMI to find my device and start playing audio. I have a droid phone, so i'm curious to see if it is a phone issue or car issue.
Thanks!

MMI boots up in the last order it was shut down. So if you were listening to Satellite radio, that will initialize first. My MMI in my 2010 takes a solid 30-45 seconds for all features to become active.

It takes a while for some reason, I figure 20-30 seconds on my 2014 :(

Fair enough. I was just curious what others were experiencing.
I know its not a fair comparison but my friends 2013 tacoma instantly connects as soon as she turns the key and starts playing right away. Same on my friends 2012 F150 King Ranch. Maybe because they don't have NAV systems it boots much faster? But i do find it irritating that on such an expensive car Audi couldn't make that system boot as quickly as others can.

I think it has to do with the MMI connecting to the internet first before starting the Bluetooth connection.

The audi MMI system has a processor and hard drive. Like any computer without a solid state drive, it takes time to boot. F150, Tacoma, other bluetooth systems are not hard drive based and are flash memory based, so they boot instantly.
I would imagine that audi is going to go the direction of the new generation MMI in the b9, with solid state drives and other neat features

My iPhone takes a while as well to connect, and depending on if I start the car during an odd or even hour of the day MMI will/won't load the artist, track, and album info.

That makes plenty of sense.

I notice this too. I recently got the latest edition of android on my phone and now it wont display track time on the screen. Shows the artist and whatnot (most of the time) but for play time it just has 0:00

If the car has been off for a while, the MMI needs to do a full boot to come up. This process starts when you "unlock" the car. So, if you want a faster boot, unlock your car as you're walking to it. You have 30 seconds from the time you unlock with the remote and you have to actuate a door handle so that it doesn't lock back up and shut down. Those of you who have smart key and are used to just walking up to it, buy yourselves this boot time necessary by doing what I said. If I want my stuff primed by the time I get in and press Start, I unlocked it as I'm walking to it from a small distance. If I don't care, I unlocked it with my hand.

Yep, about 30 seconds for me from starting the car to streaming Spotify.
One of the things that I find helpful (On Android) is the "Trigger" app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jwsoft.nfcactionlauncher
I use this to trigger tasks based upon things like NFC/WiFI, and in this case Bluetooth.
I have mine set so that when the phone detects the car's bluetooth it boots Spotify, sets the media volume appropriately, and changes the ringer/notification volume up. It's handy and free.

I have a 2013 and iPhone and I'd say 30-60 seconds is about right unless I hit the unlock button on the key as Swank suggests.

2014 and iPhone 4S. Same experience. Probably anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds before it connects and will start playing. I've also had times where it seemed to fail to connect completely and I've had to stop the car, open the door, and start it back up again to force it to reinitialize (I haven't found any other way to get the BT streaming working again when this happens..) It's quirky to say the least in my experience.

Just downloaded the app, I have the trigger to be the bluetooth, and the task as start media playback. How does it know, or how can i tell it that I want it to open Spotify?
Edit: Figured it out. It now opens an application and I have it set to open Spotify.

Necro bump. Tried this today. I think that leaving the MMI in "Telephone" mode before you get out of the car shaves off some time each morning. MMI turns on in Telephone and starts connecting immediately.

Thanks, will try this.

Anyone know where the HDD is located for MMI? As well as what connection? Just wondering if I can clone it to a SSD to speed up processing.
