View Full Version : Stratmosphere Blue Intake Filter cleaning
Hey guys,
I have the blue filter that came with the Stratmosphere intake. I was doing some spring cleaning and saw that the filter had built up some dust and dirt from driving this past winter. I currently have the K&N filter cleaner and oil that I use on one of my other cas. Will this work with the blue filter? I believe the K&N filter oil is red so although it might not hurt I'm curious what others have used to clean and oil the blue filter. It might end up being easier to just buy a new filter. Any thoughts or experience would help.
Thanks!

I used the spectre cleaning kit, their oil is clear. I cant say for sure how effective it is but things seem to be working in there.

I used the K&N recharge kit about 18 months ago. Works fine, just be sure to completely clean it with the kit then dry for several hours. Once it's totally dry, VERY lightly oil it. Err on the side of too little oil, it doesn't take much and you don't want the throttlebody or supercharger to ingest the oil, so light is all that you need.

I used the K&N cleaning kit on my blue filter. It'll darken the filter but you shouldn't be spraying so much oil that it turns red or so dark that it isn't blue anymore anyways. I personally don't mind the slight change in the color because eventually it gets dirty anyways and darkens. I keep two filters for faster changes. 1 is always cleaned and ready to be swapped in and I wash and clean the dirty one whenever I get a chance then wrap it after it's dry. Ill oil it before installing it. This process works pretty well for me and I change the filter every 5k miles

Any preference for squeeze vs spray filter oil bottle? How often do the rest of you guys clean the filter?

Doesn't matter as long as its a thin coating, the spray is usually easier for a nice even coating.

Thanks. What is the oil for? Is it just helping keep the trapped particles from being sucked through?

Think of it like a thin coating of snot on your nose hairs.

I've used that cleaner on my strat intake and its been just fine. I generally clean it every 20k miles or when I notice its visibly getting dirty. The others have already touched on how much oil to use so just be cautious of that. I keep two filters handy so there is no down time when cleaning because the filter takes a while to dry

I prefer spray to get a light and even spray. With the squeeze bottle it's easy to over apply.

Does anyone have a link to order the spare? Or an alternative that works without having to change Any fittings? Much appreciated!

You can get it off of roc euros site, I believe there are a few equivalents available on amazon for $10 less.

Yes roc euro will fit the Strat intake. It's essentially the same thing. Or use another filter of the same size as stated above.

You know Roc-Euro says to clean it every *3 months*?

I drive A LOT it also says clean as necessary because your driving conditions may vary by region. Mine can look dirty in as little as 25k miles sometimes, thats why I said when I notice its visibly getting dirty
Thanks for the tips guys! I'll give the K&N cleaner kit a whirl. I also have two filters but just bought another one when the last one was getting dirty. Looks like I now have two to clean!
