Perhaps my google foo is failing me. Are there any companies that do a mild performance camshaft set for the 2.0t? Drop in deal. Looking to spice the motor up. Anything?

Honestly there is only 3 and they are custom order.
Shrick, scat cams, and comp cams

I wonder what the gains would be
There is no such thing as mild cams. You either stick with the stockers or you go balls to the wall. My balls do not adhere well to walls so I have decided to retain my stock camshafts. I would advise double sided velcro if you are really into the idea of getting cams.

Actually custom order so yes you can have varying levels of cams made, no different than buying mild to aggressive cams for v8's

God damn it Seth I'm trying to make a point about going balls to the wall here.

I like the temptation. DTM will be doing everything labor wise, I need to source parts.

I've heard low end torque loss is common with aftermarket cams in applications like ours. I just decided to stay stock.

^^^^^ that all depends on the spec's of the custom cam[up]. All custom spec cam's will call for custom tune with all your mods that you have. I think is a waste of time[facepalm]. A good aggressive tune these days with a few bolt on mods will make the engine shine. IMO custom cams are back in the carburetor days when hardware rules[headbang]. Software tuning does amazing things [az]. At least in the street level performance anyway

Id go for JHM stage 1 or 2 tune[race] when its available[hail]. Heard nothing but good things and very cutting edge software[drool]

You would be surprised how much a cam built for your build would do. Great thing about custom cams, it just that! they are custom and allow you to build it to what you want. I am going to try and prove that here soon

I remember APR saying that there were no substantial gains with new cams that they tried. Take it with a grain of salt but if there was a market for them they would most likely be selling them.

Thats probably because if APR made cams they would charge $2000 for a set and no one would buy them. Hence them not making any money on it and its not worth "their time"

Somehow they justified a $1000 set of rods though...

I agree that people will buy rods, but how many will spend a grand instead of $400 for perfectly adequate IE rods?

So are IE rods, if anyone buys APR rods over IE they are stupid, plain and simple. Its not like youre buying Carrillo I-Beam rods with +625 bolts

Does this rod fit our cars or is it the wrong information? Its 144mm

I ran these rods in my old integra and they held up to 9000RPM all day

The difference is that a lot of people go with the most expensive brand because they think its better. APR is a way bigger name in this game than IE. OF course they are going to have their fans.

Cause people are stuck to brand loyalty or think that cause they are most expensive that the product must be better.

I found one of the threads where he talked about it. Again grain of salt but tis wa that maxR build where budget didn't seam much of a concern if there was a place to spring for expensive $ per horse power gains it most likely would have been here.
Shrick is an amazing company and we worked hand in hand with them on cam development for quite some time. The problem we ran into is no matter what grind we spit out, they were never better than stock, or better enough to justify the increased cost. We tested some cams which did increase fueling capacity a little but it was ultimately decided we would stick with the stock cams to lower the cost of the builds by a fairly significant amount. Again, this is not a fault of schrick, it's just down to physics on this engine / manifold / turbo setup. Different didn't help, but that's not to say it wouldn't if you went with a larger manifold or a significantly lager turbo than a GT3071R.
The photo above is actually from Guy Hardings Stage 4 build in Australia. It's actually a little different, but it's hard to tell from the photos as the parts are mostly the same from what people can see. I was unable to get a full photo of the MaxR build with some of my travels around the globe but I will go over as much as I can in the coming days.

Yes, just not with the stock pistons. If you are using aftermarket pistons, they would be fine. IE is priced about the same for both their drop-in rods and the 144x20 rods for aftermarket pistons.

I know I read some threads on this[o_o]. That is also reason I didn't research further in getting cams[wrench]. Schrick was amazing in my VW Dayz[hail]. Back then everything performance was mainly due to[wrench] hardware upgrades.

Even today everything performance is due to hardware upgrades. The software or tune is what ties it all together.

Once you max out airflow by upping boost via software, hardware is required. You can't create more airflow with software, and that's what makes horsepower.

Technically it is only one of four things that make power. You can keep the same "airflow" and make way more power by increasing timing and fueling.
What's the fourth? Gypsy tears.....gypsy tears add a minimum of +100 bhp

I'm not saying hardware is not required[confused]. Now software upgrades can achieve more then hardware upgrades then in the past performance dayz[az]

I realize other factors go into it. But airflow is the main component. Graemlin guy was saying more aggressive cams is from the days of carburetor motors and that a simple tune is all that's needed for power. My point is that something like cams, which add airflow, will make more power. But yes, you will need to tune for them as well.
I actually have gypsy tear injection. [;)]

If I felt that a tune was all that was needed for power. I wouldnt have installed my other hardware mods[eek]. I would have just goton a tune[facepalm]

I wanted to get GTI(gypsy tear injection) but the costs are too damn high! You must be one of them swanky folks that bathes in golden chuck e cheese tokens.
Did you cam your vr4? I've always wondered if it's worth it on a 2.0l

Opulence. I has it. [;)]
Yeah, my Mitsu has HKS 272 intake/exhaust cams. They shifted the powerband up, but added decent power as well. Idle is pretty lopey. The 4g63t responds well to them. I'm not sure about the Audi 2.0t.

I remember him posting pictures of both cams side by side getting mic'd and they seemed identical, seems strange that USP would mark that as an upgrade though, maybe it was different and just not visible to the eye?

Might be something to look into for people building their motors. Could be a good mild cam upgrade or just a waste of money haha
