I have since moved back to Colorado on a permanent basis. I am looking at roughly an 80 mile round trip daily. I am looking at picking up a DD so the B7 can sit and have work done to it. Looking for something I know I won't mod but, still needs to be somewhat fun to drive and comfortable.

Looking for something that gets over 25mpgs roughly.

What I have been looking at

Audi A5- only the 3.2V6
Audi B6 Avant/allroad more towards the 3.0V6 side
VW golf TDI/ MK4
VW jetta TDI

I am open to more options. I know everyone well say grab something that you wont want to mod, but I still have to enjoy the car I drive. It's my biggest downfall really. I would say On a high I can do cash purchase of up to 6-7K and finance up to 22k right now.

definitely suggest the golf/jetta TDI from those options. you can lease one new for 7k / 2 years

looks like I have my answer. lol I biggest problem is if I am going to go new I might as well do an A5 lol.

I am looking at the older TDI's as well.

But, damn that is one hell of an offer! I am going to have to look into this.

Get the a5. Having an a5 is like having an insurance policy on being able to pickup women at any age.

Nice Martin.... It is a beautiful car and I have wanted one since they have come out.

Anyways, The reason I was leaning towards the avant/wagon style is for the room. We have dogs we like to take with us. And, me and the girl are going to start getting into more hiking so hence the room and mpg's

new A5 lease? or buy? i figured either would be 2x-3x as expensive as leasing/buying a jetta, which is the only reason i suggested jetta > A5. obviously the A5 smokes the jetta in everything, including snow performance, which is huge here.

and he is in a committed relationship lol

No no, I am not looking to buy new. Everything would be used. The jetta is the only one that would be new at that price at least lol.

The A5 I found is beautiful and I can probably get the guy down to around 20K since I would add miles on driving it back.

Either way I am pricing out my options right now.

My A5 was my least favorite and shortest lived Audi I have ever owned. Partly my fault as I had the 3.2 which was the most terrible idea I have ever had. It was slow, but looked fast so everyone would try and race you. It is a fairly large car, yet has barely any usable room. And with its stock 19 RIMZ it snow mobiles over the snow, even with snow tires. No me gusta A5 3.2. 4.2, meh. 2.0, acceptable. 3.0T, BUENO!

you know what are super cheap now... N54/N55 cars...

brakes + handling are amazing stock, so you wouldn't need to mod it. comes in AWD

I would really look at a TDI just for gas savings. The difference in 40mpg vs 30mpg is about $700 a year if you are putting on 400 miles a week at $4.00/gallon

If you don't like the look of Jetta Sportswagon the TDI Golf is pretty sweet. 45-50 mpg's is what my parents are getting on there Sportswagen.

Mmmm 45 is pretty optimistic in my opinion.
I had an 06 BRM jetta I ran to 170k miles, my lifetime average was 41MPG, manual, all highway
The wife has a 2011 2.0 CR jetta that is coming up on 55k and she's pretty lucky to hit 40 with the DSG, all highway

with diesel at a 30 some cent per gallon price premium I look at it like this, 41 miles on $3.80 diesel is 9.27 cents per mile. 32 MPG on $3.50 gasoline is 10.94 cents per mile. Figure in the maintenance costs of the diesel and it's easily cheaper to drive the gasoline car, that isn't even considering the price premium on purchasing the car, however driving a diesel makes me want to kill myself much less than driving any of the gasoline cars that get 30+ MPG....
I find the diesel in CO anywhere but the shell stations to be pretty shitty also.

why not a Gryphan, you just have to feed it and trim its nails
and No air traffic.

lol Jk In colorado like they have said diesel cost more per mile and is not found at all gas stations. Seems like the regulations on quality is lacking too except for shell
