Hey all, I am off work this week so I'd like to do my valve cleaning while I have the time. I ordered some new injector o-rings but they wont be here until next week. Is it absolutely necessary to replace the o-rings if all I'm doing is taking the manifold off? Car has 70k miles.

I know it's recommended and it would be best to replace them but do I have to?

Thanks

No, they really aren't necessary unless you damage them. Make sure they come off with the injector, it makes it much easier for reinstall.

Good to hear, thanks mec. I planned on checking them carefully and if I'm really worried about them I'll go to the dealer and grab some...for $4 each :-0 I bought them online for .85 cents a piece lol.

Thanks!

The only thing you need to be careful about is the clips. If you have plastic ones you can easily break them. But this is only if you remove the injectors too.

Yeah those plastic clips are sh*t. Just be careful with them when taking them out.

Usually a few injectors will come out with the manifold, Mine always pop out of the head, if the plastic bitches break, just super glue them and put them back in. Order a set of metal ones when you get a chance, way better design.

My injectors never came out without prying.

Hopefully I don't have any issues with the clips (are these the cages that the injectors sit in while in the block?) If they break and I can't fix them I think the dealer has them in stock.

Thanks guys!

No, I think what those guys are talking about is a little plastic clip that sets under the o-ring on top of the injector. Without it the injector wont seal properly. Ask me how I know...

I'd replace them personally.
I've had a really bad experience using old o-rings...

I'm going to inspect them carefully and if they are at all suspect I'll replace them.

BTW oreillys sells an oring assortment kit that contains the oring size you need if you have to replace one or two (4 of the size you need come in the kit). I had to replace 2 when I did my carbon cleaning (my own fault).

I was talking about the cage. they make metal ones that are way better then the plastic ones

Pulled my
Manifold a ton of times, never replaced any of the rubber o rings, or gasket
As long as they are not damaged you will have no issues... It's rubber, not paper, or some other fragile composite

Yeah, more to do with age and heat cycles than number of times removed I'd guess, I'm sure if he inspects them he'll be fine... I mean I didn't completely burn my house down, just a little bit of it.

Well I pulled the manifold a while ago and have been cleaning the valves. I got lucky and all of the injectors stayed in the block and the o-rings are all in the manifold/rail. I looked at them really quick and they look OK. I'll inspect them more before putting it all back together.

Didn't bother me much but the wife was one passed off Jose. Also quite embarrassing to explain to the fire truck crew what happened lol.
