I remember a member posted about this and found somewhere that was selling for ~$200. I was sad that my early 2014 did not come with these new paddle shifters, not sure when they started incorporating them into the 2014 build. Probably around the same time the SQ5 was released since they have the same paddles.

Had an S4 loaner and didn't notice this. I did notice however the red ringed start/stop button, which IMO felt cheaper than the all metal one in MY13. Also noticed the S4 badge in the cluster is made of plastic on MY14 where on MY13 is printed.

I am likewise not a fan of the cheap feeling stock paddles, really enjoying my PT paddle extensions, mostly for the feel of brushed Aluminum and added weight. Despite how much shit I got on here for them [>_<]

Got my '14 in Aug, older paddles. If someone can locate these to buy I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm looking at all the usual sites (ecs, euro parts, etc) but nothing with the part number 8V0-951-523 SQ5. I'd love to upgrade!

lol, you really think it's metal? It's not. It's plastic with a metallic painted cover which tends to delaminate because it's almost like aluminum foil. There's a reason they changed to the red ringed ones the other models have and it's because of they "peeling" issue those old buttons develop over time.

Maybe so, regardless I think it looks and feels better than the red ringed one. I'm sure my opinion will change when it starts peeling though.

The click is definitely not as pronounced or even there in the new ones, but overall, I like my red one better than the old one. Looks and feels better once you forget the click feeling of the old one, but I know what you mean.

Any chance of better pricing if we got a GB going ?
how is the install?
The airbag comes out via two clips at the back. Undo wiring and remove airbag. Then the whole black trim which houses the badge and switches needs to be pulled out by hand and not with tools. This takes a bit of a deft hand as it takes a reasonable amount of force, but it can't be done in a manner that rips the trim out because you can damage the wiring from the paddles to the switches. The black trim is a press fit, no hardware holds it in, just barbed tangs. Once the black trim is lose you unplug the paddles from the switches. Undo a Torx bolt and the paddles pops out. Reverse the procedure to install.
Any chance of better pricing if we got a GB going ?
I could look into this, but don't expect huge discounting because of the relatively low price compared to most items. If people are truly interested post up and if it looks like 5+ buyers are interested I will do some group purchase pricing.

Isn't the disconnection of the battery also required as a safety measure before disconnecting the electrical connections to the airbag. I've never set one off by not doing it, but I think it's normally suggested... no?

Maybe yank airbag fuses? I don't like the idea of everything being powered off, would be especially annoying if you don't have vcds to reset codes.

My recent purchase 2014 has the newer larger paddles. I like them much better than the ones in my 2012 S4. Easier to use.

The install is fairly easy.. Gotta remove the airbag (sorta hard) then remove the black gloss trim piece around the controls (don't pry, just pull with constant even pressure and make sure you don't pull too far as the cables are still attached to their electronics). Then it's just a couple of screws for each paddle and reverse it all.

Forget about the paddle shifters, what about the god awful pedal set and gear knob shifter on the 8.0's????....:)
If it wasn't for the diff rating of 8/10 on pedal set and many disaster stories on the gear knob/shifter swap I would be all over it...even bought a heat gun for the gear knob switch but I am too gun shy for this mod after reading that 10 page thread on subject...even asked my local install guy to do it and he even said no.

Those are saved. They're not in volatile memory. Once they're written, they're written.

I've swapped steering wheels on 4 B8's and not a single one of them had codes from disconnecting the battery. Just disconnect the ground and your good to go.

Good to know, I've never disconnected the battery, but I did get DTC's (no dash error lights though) while pulling/looking for the right fuse for a dashcam.

That's because you pulled fuses and then powered up and modules failed check routines on startup. Pulling the battery pulls all power and also will clear stored codes for CELs, etc. as long as power to all expected modules is cut and then restored, the systems all come back online without issues. Contrary to belief, "adaptations" after replacing the battery isn't really needed. The drive systems will adapt as you drive anyway, just like previous models did and just like all other modern cars do. All that is lost are stored error codes and learned calibrations for driving conditions the ECU picked up along the way. Most are relearned in a few drive cycles afterwards anyway.

Interesting, good stuff swank. Although I don't remember if I started with the fuse disconnected, tapped the body control module which I believe powers keyless entry. Anyways no biggie...
SwankPeRFection

Yeah, you don't have to start. Some things prime when you even open the door or keyless unlock. No big deal, just remember to clear codes a quick dirty hack is to just disconnect battery for 30-60 seconds. It's usually enough time for everything to properly power drain. Remember to test your keys afterwards. On the B7 I have to press Lock/Unlock on the key with it in the ignition for it to go back to normal. All other stuff like seat positions, etc. stick. Not had to mess with it in the B8 yet, but I did have to shift the battery around and disconnected to move and all was fine afterwards. Anyway, sorry for the hijack, just wanted to give you as much info as possible.

Really? That's bizarre. I picked mine up 6 weeks ago (ordered back in November) and mine has the new ones. In fact, I remember my salesman mentioning that when he first showed me the car.
I understand the gripes about pricing, but I hope everyone knows that pricing like this is based on what it costs from Audi. If $324 is a bothersome price then a dealership charging you $487.80 should really make you mad...
If you to be even more mad Audi wants over $1000 for extended shift paddles for the R8 style steering wheels[eek]

Not complaining about your pricing at all. I know it is because of cost from Audi. Just blows my mind the cost would be so high on something like that haha.

Dec. 21, 2013. It had already been in service for ~1500 miles before I got it though, so original delivery date was in November (previous guy bought it, then decided he wanted to switch the DSG for manual, so brought it back to swap for another S4). I'd have to go check the sticker for actual production date as I'm not certain of it.
Cars built from 11/13 on should have these.
