I'm doing pads and rotors with this ECS Tuning kit: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_S4-Quattro-3.0T/Braking/Service_Kit/ES2597368/ however the pads have been delayed several times. One of their sales reps suggested I get different pads from them and I was looking at EBC Red or Green. Any suggestions? This is my daily driver and I'm not trying to sacrifice tons of performance but I do want them to be quiet and not dirty.
How does this kit compare to the Adams Rotors / Pads?

well, its cheaper and higher quality (even if you werent counting the pads) with the pads its a no brainer.
edit: also, cue adams rotors account coming in here and denouncing me as a troll in 3.... 2....

Regardless of whether or not Adam's is better or worse, how do EBC pads compare to the Hawk HPS pads as part of the package?

EBC = junk
Not even in the same league as Hawk, not even the same sport. Seriously i had some, not on my S4, and they were junk.

I've seen the exact same post but reversed. Aka, Hawk is total worthless crap, EBC are awesome. Seems to vary based on personal experience.

Usually Porterfield, Akebono, and Ferodo have positive reviews. Hawk and EBC vary, sometimes unfairly (using HPS on a track and complaining, for example). There are a few threads here to glance over.

I have about 10,000 on EBC red, and I am very happy with them. Low dust, great performance with spirited canyon driving, no wear issues for the pad or the rotor, and no noise. They do take about 500 to 1000 miles to bed in. I could feel the grip go up and notice the dust go down once bedded. Def step up from OEM other than the bed in time, which I'm sure is why OEM does not use this compound.
I just put EBC Yellows on my S4 and so far have no reason to complain. I purchased them as track pads, but at this point see no reason to swap them out other than saving the wear on them. They're quiet and have good stopping power on the street and track. They did dust quite a bit over the weekend but that was under some very hard braking, so not sure how they will do with dust on a daily basis.
That Kit doesn't come with Stainless lines tho. That seems to be a fairly basic part to any brake system upgrade.

Stainless lines are not considered an important upgrade unless you are tracking really.... pedal feel is solid already.

Akebono Euro Ceramics are another popular pad among B8 S4 owners, might be another option to consider.

How is the dust compared to stock? I only have 17k on my car but would put on new pads if they don't make my wheels look like they are gunmetal

Akebono ceramic pads do not dust. I can go a month without washing the wheels and have hardly any dust. THe draw back is the initial bite is gone compared to factory.
If I had to do it again, I would get Hawk HPS or EBC Red.

Very minimal dusting.

Pretty much, it's just the nature of the beast. Ceramic needs to see a little heat first before it bites which is why many people note the initial bite is not as great as OEM.
It's kind of a give or take thing. If you want low dusting pads expect less initial bite, if you want a pad that has better initial bite expect them to dust more.

Hm ok. Jason - I actually ordered the brake service kit linked in the first post but I guess that Hawk pads have been out of stock forever and a half and will be out of stock for at least another month. Mainly, I was just looking for a different pad that will be great for street use but won't squeal like a banshee/my stock pads and won't spew dust like the stock pads.

You could call in to customer service and have them remove the Hawk pads and add the Akebono Euro Ceramics I linked in post #12.
Akebono Euro Ceramics are our second best seller next to the Hawk HPS. Akebonos actually dust less than the HPS pads too. Even though the initial bite suffers slightly ceramic has a higher resistance to fading, which in the long run will save your butt if you have to really slam on the brakes from a high speed. A slight delay in the pads really biting is far less scary than when you are braking hard and your pads fade out and you cant get them to slow the vehicle down any faster no matter how hard you press the brake pedal.

Sounds good! I think you'll be very happy with the Akebono's especially how clean your wheels will stay!
