I've only owned my 2012 S4 for 2 months and something happened today that has me wondering. Specifically, the Oil Level message popped up in the DIC while I was driving down the road. It said the oil level was normal, but I'm a tad spooked that it popped up at all for no reason.

Any feedback?

Thanks

Happened to me on one of my previous B8's it was a faulty hood latch.

Hmm, thanks for the reply but how exactly does a faulty hood latch trigger a message about the oil level?

These cars burn oil. I keep a spare quart in the trunk so I'm ready each time I see the oil level warning.

If you open the hood with the ignition on, the oil level will pop up in the DIS. If your hood switch is faulty or out of adjustment, maybe hitting a bump while driving is triggering the display. Mine was faulty replaced under warranty.

It's not normal for the oil level to randomly pop up in your display between the gauges telling you that your oil level is normal.

This exact same thing happened to me a bunch of times in one day a week ago. Oil level popped up a number of times telling me everything is normal. Not hitting any bumps or anything just cruising on the freeway. Hasn't happened since then and it was driving home after my 15k service.

For what it's worth....my car burned half a quart of oil in the first 4000 miles. Do yourself a favor and buy a dip stick.

As others have said. Open your hood and close it. Don't be pussy closing it either... i.e. don't push it to latch and then press down on it to lock it. Just push down slowly on it and let it close on its own (i.e. slam shut). It won't kill the hood and won't damage anything. If you do the click-latch/close thing you will have issues like this. Just close it like a man. Try that first and see where you're at. Be aware that you MUST cycle the car On after you cycle the latch for the hood. Basically, have the car off, open the hood all the way, count to 10, close the hood. Go in and start the car. Wait until the dash cycles the Oil Level OK message and graphics and once it goes away, you can turn it off and leave. Simple as that.
