We're the biggest state in the contiguous US and I see the 4rings often when I travel the different metro areas. When and where are we meeting? Lets get this sub thread going!

Weekend trips to Dallas/Austin, even San Antonio are good for me. Houston not so much though.

I do wonder if I'm the only person on here in Abilene though?

Just be happy you're not in Del Rio! I can usually hit up the Houston or Dallas area if planned ahead of time. Holla if you make it down to SA

Actually, if you gave me the choice at any given time in the last 20 years all the way till now, I'd rather live there than Abilene. There's WAY more shit in Midland because there's WAY more money. Midland has buildings and a real downtown, at least. Abilene...nope...Odessa...nope. Midland\Odessa is in the middle of yet ANOTHER huge oil boom. Right now you can't even buy a shack to live in for less than $100K. And by "shack" I mean POS, run down house with no renovations built in the 1950's on the west side of town (not good). It's fucking ridiculous out there. That said, money doesn't change mentality...that's why I don't go back there.

They have TWO Super Walmarts...[;)][:D]

Haha so you're telling me that if I want to marry into some southern oil money that's where I should look? Haha kidding! But it sounds like they should be rolling in the Audis...

And Super Walmarts plural... wow this place sounds like paradise!

So I figure I better at least chime in, seeing as I live in midland. I know at least 2 other guys who would be interested in an audi meetup, so if the abilene crowd came over we could get a four top at Starbucks...

Wow. There's at least two of you???[:D]

No, for real. Where do you guys go for maintenance and repairs out there? Last time I was "home" was Aug. 2011 and people were STILL staring at my Audi wondering what the fuck kind of car it was. Should've seen the looks I got in my B7 back in 2008-2010 the few times I took it there to see old friends.

Well, you were actually pretty right on with your oil boom assessment. There are quite a few more here than there used to be, but they are still a lot rarer than benz or bmw. The guys I know either go to Ft. Worth or Plano for service, and I think one guy goes to Austin. Nobody knows how to work on them locally, and even if they did, prices and wait times are sky high.

I still got one guy from back in the day I've talked to recently who's hot shotting out of Odessa. He's given me the rundown a recent as three weeks ago. Also, my dad was looking into potentially going back (commuting by airplane from Denver) to take a job there early last year. Terms of the deal ended up not working exactly to his liking, but more importantly, the housing situation just wasn't going to happen for him. I mean, if my dad who was a resident there (me, too) for a total of 20 years between 1980 and 2004 says there ain't shit...there ain't shit.[:D]

Benz, BMW, and Volvo have always been the of the European car staples of the area, I used to go to school with the kid whose dad owned both the Benz and the Volvo dealerships in Midland and the kid whose dad owned the BMW dealership in Odessa (pretty sure they don't anymore). The guy who purchased the BMW's for the dealer in Odessa lived down the street from us for a long time in one of the many houses we lived in there over the course of two decades. He was good friends with my dad. My first European car was a '95 C 280 Mercedes purchased CPO from the Benz dealer there. Fun fact, back in the 80's Rolls Royce had a dealership out there in Midland. That was pretty short lived once the first bust hit in '86.

On the other subject, that's a LONG way to go for service. I am actually surprised not one of you has tried to work out something with the VW dealer in Lubbock, but then again, I don't even know how\if that would even work. It surprises me, but at the same time doesn't, that no one out there knows how to work on them. That was one of my biggest fears every time going out there...what the fuck would I do if the car broke? Every time in a modded one, too, and that just made me more nervous. My current A3 has a nice little battle scar from 349 back in 2011 on the rear passenger fender. I've never repaired it...I consider it a honorable battle scar.[:D]

Im sure we know a lot of the same people. I graduated hs in '99 and spent 12 years in the navy. Moved back 2.5 years ago.

There is actually a local vw dealer now that would probably be able to fix stuff in a pinch. The reason I think the guys I know go to dallas is because they have audicare, so its free (other than the "commute").

And yeah, the housing market is tough. When I moved here in '11 I balked at buying because the house we found was $100/sf. 2 years later, the same house was 160/ft. The house we ended up buying went on the market at noon, and there were 3 bids by 6 pm.

But, its hard to complain when times are good. Hence the reason I was able to get my dream car...

We need suggested dates for our get together!

The Location Poll thread has 27 voters so far. This has the potential to be a great time for all. What are some realistic dates that we can decide on? Things to keep in mind to help maximize participation:

1. Best to be on a weekend to allow for interstate travel (Saturday)
2. At least a month lead time to allow for proper planning (child care, permission from the warden, etc...)
3. Food (lots of it)

I've been so busy with work lately I've been neglecting giving a date since we're not getting any less busy anytime soon.

For argument's sake though, I can plan for something if it's July or later.

I completely understand if that's much later than everyone was thinking, I'm just throwing it out there.

Hey everyone. New to the forum and not yet an Audi owner, but getting pretty serious about purchasing one soon.

Just wondering how you are doing at setting up a meet. I would love to come to one and talk Audi with any current owners. Houston would be easiest, but travelling anywhere in Texas is not out of the question. I am currently looking at used S4s, S5s, and A5s. May also consider a new A3 or S3. Lot's of great Audis to choose from!

Love the West Texas conversation! Wife is from Odessa. Her family is still there, and also my son has been with Schlumberger in Midland for about 3 years. So I've spent some time there. There are worse places to live. At least it's in Texas!

Saw a b8.5 s4 that looked to be lowered on peelers with exhaust in the parking lot of Randalls at 183 and braker. Had black license plates too

How's it going man? I live close to DFW. We have a few things going around. Check out the Audi Club Lone Star chapter on Facebook. And then there are quite a few cars and coffee events in the metroplex.
