Has anyone ever done this? I have access to a blown (surprise surprise) ebay k04 with okay housings. Has anyone ever mated an oem CHRA to a pair of ebay housings?

Give it a try. Only thing you would really need to be concerned about is if the casting isn't true. Meaning, your blades could rub on them. Just check when putting it back together.

Just curious how long did the ebay one last? And what brand was it? Godspeed?

Probably not.

Longitudinal K04 is a K04-0015. This is different than a transverse K04, which may have different impeller sizes and thus may not ft.

I've seen ko4-015 chra for sale on eBay recently. I'm considering picking one up, seeing as how my current bw ko4 is puffing smoke @ idle.

Not sure, the CHRA is actually okay on it, it ingested something and murdered the compressor wheel. I need to find a new compressor wheel anyways and that's about half the cost of a used BW CHRA. If I do this I'll keep you guys posted.

The only thing I'd be worried about with an eBay turbo is a bad chra and oil seals, incorrect tolerances on the housing and or fins. Getting oil where it needs to go, and keeping oil out of where it shouldn't be. If the fin tolerances are messed up that's a whole nother story [;)]

Can't believe the cost of a new compressor wheel is 1/2 of a BW CHRA. Although if your chra is good, might as well keep it! Is the BW CHRA the one $500?

Can get a used BW chra for arould 150-200, probably would need a rebuild too.

You can send it out for a rebuild. When the company receives it, they will tell you that it is a knock off and charge you an extra $75 dollars to rebuilt it ontop of the $200 they normally charge. A bunch of my friends have done this with garrett turbos..

I have a couple A4's running GYTURBO's they are honestly very reliable at least so far with me. My dad's A4, moms, and sisters all 3 have K03 CHRA's in them by gyturbo for the past 1-2 years, I've had borgwarner OEM turbos blow faster, these have still not blown and have no oil burning problems. K04 CHRA will probably around 165
