Well, I'm not in Southern California, but the prices in the Northeast are probably pretty comparable (I think?).

I've got a 2.0T with Premium, Cold, Leather, Light/Tech Pkgs for 36 mos lease at $479/mo (that includes 7% RI sales tax, so the actual base payment for the car is less). Terms are 12K per year and residual is just over $21K at the end of the term. I put $1K down and the mileage overage fees were waived from my previous 3.0 B5 ($1500 charge -- I was 6K miles over).

I'm sure everyone has their own take on how best to negotiate price, options, terms, etc. but 1st and foremost, I think you'll have better luck going back to a place you've already bought from as most businesses won't want to lose the customers they have -- repeat business is big for everyone, no matter what line you're in, I think. But, if this is your first Audi, or you just recently moved to CA, then this obviously won't help you.

Try to find out how much you're willing to spend per month (and don't forget to factor in your sales tax, insurance costs, gas costs) and then decide what options you really want and those you can live without (I really wanted the Nav+ option but it put me over the limit I had set for myself, so I nixed it). You can get both MSRP and Invoice pricing at Edmunds.com and many other online resources (does anyone have any other good sites?) to estimate overall cost and the "cost per option". Then you'll have a good idea of what your looking at spending.

I have about 7 dealers within a 50 mile radius, and when I went shopping, I got quotes from all of them -- I then used those numbers as leverage with the Audi dealership closest to me (the one I bought my B5 from before) that I really wanted to buy from and it seemed to work out [a little] to my advantage. Keep in mind, they're not going to GIVE the cars away -- after all the best deal is a Win-Win (bump to Stephen Covey fans) with them making a reasonable profit and you getting a reasonable deal.

I've only had my B7 for about a month, so most of what happened is still fresh in my head. PM me with any specific questions and I can at least tell you what my thought process was, what I went through, etc.

Best of luck.

Even though I was first time Audi owner, I think I got a great deal.

I got
Premium+Cold+Nav+Bose+lighting+Sport
A4 Quattro Manual

Paid $350 down including DMV fees and drove off with $550 a month. $550 includes CA tax which was like $44 out of the payment, so otherwise it was like $504 per month lease for 36 months 15k miles.

I got the car about $200 below invoice here in Bay Area, CA.

I ended up with about 2.5k below retail after all was said and done. But I shopped for a solid 3 weeks back and forth between dealerships.

Preet Wow, $200 below invoice!? What dealership was this, new Audis never sell below invoice...that's wild. You can usually expect to pay between invoice and MSRP. Usually no less than $500 over invoice, in the Bay Area anyway.

No, I wouldn't lie folks.

$200 below invoice.

And finally yes, I paid $900 check which included first months payment of $550 so that means $350 down with DMV fees...

Yes, it was at Bay Area, CA.

The tips I would offer anyone is that if the car you want is in the dealership lot, you can bargain it. I knew the fleet manager over there too so that kind of helped. I never planned on sport , bose and cold weather package but considering I got it under invoice that was the ONLY reason I went beyond my budget. I dont' want to name the dealership and get them flooded over there but I can assure you $500 over invoice deals for sure though, let me know so I can email dealership location for you guys, but remember, you HAVE TO cut the deal from a car in dealership's lot.

BTW. If you get Audi Credit card account, it saves you $550 from the down you give. Audi of Concord refused my sale of $500 over invoice by the way. I hope no one from my dealership is reading this thread.... and if someone is, please forgive me. And remember, leasing saves you taxes... in a few thousands over 3 years of lease. And yes, USE EDMUNDS to verify invoice price. Negotiate up from invoice, not below from retail.

Damn I gave so much details but I'd like everyone to get decent deals.

If you work out the numbers, you might find that financing and lease turn out to be same numbers after you buy back the car after lease. The only difference is that it saves taxes... usually in the range of $5000-$8000 over 3 yr lease on a car like this.

hmm, I never thought about leasing, since I purchased all my cars. My B6 A4 is paid off and whatever I get from selling it, its going to be my down payment. so hopefully audi is willing to give me some cut on the packages.

I went leasing because I'm still a po' student. At least until I finish law school next year. I can afford (even if barely) a 375 payment, but if you start getting up to 550+, it gets real tight. So the 3 year lease is perfect for me. Low payments until I can get settled and afford higher ones.

How is your lease saving you taxes? Just curious on how that worked...maybe it's different in CA than in RI/MA...

There is income tax you pay here in CA.

If after all deductions I have to pay tax on 40k income, then its a certain percent, say 40% tax on that. with lease, you can deduct what you paid for car, so it will be like 40k - (550*12) so like around 33k... so you save 40% of the tax you would've paid on 7k.

Basically now in this case, I will pay tax on 33k and not on 40k. And this will apply to each year's lease

I had that same question about the taxes. That sure is a nice bonus to leasing. I wish we had that here in Maine.

It's not $550 * 12 that comes off your income, it's the amount of tax that is in that $550 payment each month that comes off your payment. In the case of an 8% tax it would be $44 a month. Times that by 12 months ($44 * 12) and you would be able to deduct $528 for the whole year. Not really the BIG savings, but still nice.
