So on my way home from work my car died in the middle of the street. Came to a stop and restarted. Has run fine ever since but my fuel gauge reads 1/4 lower than the actual level now and I have the P0089 code that I have reset several times to no avail.
ECS has a lpfp control unit that seems to be exactly what I need however here is my problem...
I have read many threads here about the lpfp and that it is in the inspection hole on the passenger side under the rear seat. When I opened mine up however there is no pump, just a connector laying on top of the tank and a small orange thing (sorry, no idea what it is, sending unit maybe) at the front side of the hole. I'm assuming I have to drop the tank to even find the pump and then have to hope this controller is up there somewhere.
Please tell me someone here has replaced this controller on a car that is like mine so I can have some piece of mind that I am not pulling the tank for the fun of it.
I have a 2006 A4 2.0T.

The sender should be there, under the passenger bench, not in the trunk
If we are talking about the same location, post a picture of what you see on your car
Had the same PITA code for a while and replaced all the simple stuff. Ended up replacing the lpfp and code is gone
If you decide to replace the lpfp, here is some tips:
1/ disconnect the battery
2/ crack open the fuel line on top of the engine to release the pressure in the line otherwise, you are in for a shower
3/ the 2 fuel lines connections on top of the lpfp are a pain as well

Yep - the pump is accessed in the trunk on FWD, and it's very easy to swap.

Not me, brother. FWD here, with the incredibly awesome CVT transmission! Ask me how I know the pump is easy to swap... haha

Europaparts ships damn quick! That's where I bought mine. There are guides on how to replace it. If you have trouble, let me know and I can send you a PDF from the Bentley manual on the procedure.
If you don't have any, pick up some fuel line pliers - makes things so much easier.
