Good Afternoon

I have this 1997 Audi A4 1.8t I bought this as a non running car, I have not found any problems from the previous owner having messed with any of the systems on this car except for 1 vacum line There is a 1" hose that is coming off the larger tube that goes to the other side of the car via the metal tube to the intercooler, this 1" tube goes right above the A/C compressor. It is the plastic little canister that has a small hose that comes out of it. this was not connected to anything ? Now on the intake itself the previous owner had either broken off a little hose fitting towards the front of the car and had put an orange plug in it. This fitting looks to match the one on the far side of the intake that I believe goes to the fuel regulator. I am wondering if these two are supposed to belong together ? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have posted a link below to the picture
I just took which may explain things better A is the little canister and B is where I think it should go

Thanks for clarifying what I thought was going on here, I did not know if I was going to post a picture with this. So the first part was explaining the location of the diverter valve and what I was looking at.

So thank you very much for the assistance
