Will our cars shut down power to the wheels if one of the front axles breaks/separates from the transmission?

Nope. It will keep spinning.

My drive axle snapped at the U joint where it bolts on to the differential flange. The axle kept spinning, car didn't move, horrible clunking and speedometer oscillation; it won't just shut off.

"Shut down power to the wheels", lol.

If you mean "Will a B5 fail to move upon breaking merely 1 axle?" then yeah. You won't be going anywhere.

I ask because, it happened to me yesterday and I just want to make sure the car would stop sending power to all the wheels like mine did.

I'm just hoping nothing else broke and I can put on the replacement axles that have been sitting in my garage all winter waiting for a couple warm days to swap them out... I'll find out later today.

Your car sends all its power the the corner that moves the most freely. The ecu control s the traction and where the power goes by applying the brakes to various corners. Broken/separated axle is going to just spin an no power will goto the other axles

Do all B5's have traction control? I think only 00' and 01' models have it..

I'm not as familiar with the b5 as I am b6/b7
