does anyone have a clue what the part number is for a 3 inch inlet/velocity stack? I an tried of my cone filter and how loud it is. I want to return to my stock airbox but I need to fit some sort of velocity stack in front of my 3 inch VR6 MAF. I have been told that a V8 can work. But I have no clue what year and which version is the best. Has anyone done this?

Just go generic and make it fit.

That won't fit in the air box unless I cut 50% off. It also does not satisfy the design need of a few inches of straight air intake which proper MAF readings require.

One of the main benefits of a velocity stack is that it straightens out the airflow.

Here was my solution:

It's just a 3" aluminum pipe with slits cut on one edge, rolled a bit, and taped to smooth it out (later I used aluminum ducting tape). And that's a 3" silicone coupler holding the 3" pipe to the MAF housing.

The biggest problem is definitely lack of space in the airbox lid. You don't want the inlet to be too close to the wall, yet you want as long of a straight section as possible.

This is what I need. I wrote off to this guy to ask him if he wanted to sell the inlet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-1999-Audi-A8-Quattro-Mass-Airflow-Sensor-MAF-OEM-0-280-217-804-Bosch-/331121848300?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d18666fec&vxp=mtr

are you running a cone with a velocity stack currently?

KN cone filter. I am sick of the brute sound of it. I enjoyed that stuff years ago when I was in my 20s with my Golf II VR6 with a single rear muffler and cone filter. However now, I want a car that sounds stock but is not. The low base boom of the intake when the car is warming up is just killing me.

oh i didnt know if you were just wanting the velocity stack. Blox makes a filter/velocity stack combo or you can just buy the 3" stack. I think it would be too long to fit in the stock airbox though,

That velocity stack looks short enough. I could trim it down if need be. I do know other people in the past have used it to fit a 3in MAF to the stock airbox.
