View Full Version : Lovely P2293 Code

So this morning, it was about 9°F in lovely buffalo, and I started my car which took a couple cranks, and then started. Driving however, was off. Felt like it was in limp mode, took 30 seconds to climb to 45. So I pulled over, turned car off and on, now theres a CEL. Limp to where I have to be, and park. An hour later, I leave and power seems to be restored, with CEL still on. I get it scanned, P2293. Fuel Regulator or whatever. So I go to my dealership and set up a diagnostic appt Monday. As I'm leaving the dealership, CEL goes off. Great! Sorta.
I know this can be an issue when the CF goes, and as far as I know the PO might not have changed it ever. I'm at 119k so just under the CF warranty still thank god. So, unless the code comes back, I'm going to keep my Monday appt and have them visually check the follower for wear, and if it is, have them do the warranty work. My question is: How much should I pay for the follower to be inspected? Will it still be a $90 diagnostic hour? I just don't want to get taken for a loop by the dealer

Absolutely pay to have it inspected. There is an open campaign on this up to 120,000 miles. Intake camshaft, cam follow and potentially HPFP depending on the severity... all replaced under warranty. Drop it over to the dealer. Good luck!

^^ Right on, man, thanks! I'm thinking its gotta be the follower. And warranty work is the best work [wrench]

They're doing the warranty work for me :D thank god its the follower. Had a hole punched right through.. Yikes. I'll have a list of everything they replace by tomorrow. I'm actually hoping they check the head as well to see if theres any scoring from metal fragments.

Congrats
I have been chasing down this same code myself. My follower is fine. I am APR stage 1, and the code only intermittently comes. I never saw the code until after the tune, and when I run it in stock mode I never get the code. I think when I am on 93 tune and getting on it, it is calling for more fuel than can be delivered by my fuel pump. (it isn't the low pressure side)

Idk man that tune is programmed to be fine on a stock pump. Maybe the sensor is off? Or I guess the pump could be faulty..

The other thing. The shop had a pump from an A3 they swapped with the same results (swapped the sensor AND the pump as one unit).

Well shit. Haha thats above my nonexistent pay grade man hopefully someone chimes in

Yeah. Either the sensor is bad (they took logs and can't find anything other than fuel cuts) or the tune is calling for more fuel than the stock hpfp can deliver (only under high demand).
I have noticed under hard pulls I can feel the cuts, it almost feels like I'm hitting the rev limiter with pulsing cuts. This happens even while it is accelerating.
It's weird. I don't want to spend the money on a new pump, and I don't want to get a hpfp upgrade unless I have to.

Have you talked to APR and see if theres any other reports of this issue?

My shop is the shop that setup the APR tune, and they sent to log files to them. I haven't personally talked to anyone at APR.

This is not a tune issue. The is either something wrong with your intake camshaft on the fuel pump lobe or follower.
I had the same exact issue. In stock mode there was never an issue but in 91 octane file I would get it in the morning intermittently when getting on the hwy under moderate to heavy throttle. Checked the follower and was in alright condition but the camshaft fuel pump lobe was scored to shit. Took it in to Audi for the extended warranty and got the revision B camshaft and a new follower. 5k+ miles no issue in any file settings.
Go to the dealer and pay the $100 diagnostic fee to have them check it. Once they confirm the issue is one of those two they will waive the fee and continue with the warranty work that is needed. Just make sure you DO NOT clear the ECM of the code or they will not warranty it. The code must be stored in the ECM for AOA To approve reimbursement to the dealer for the labor.

I have a 2008, so revision B camshaft, and there have been two different pumps both experiencing the same intermittent fuel cuts. Both the fuel pumps' lobes are fine, and so is the follower.
As a loss.

Ok then continue on your problem quest but I would be willing to bet on what I said... Just me though. Good luck.

Here is a few threads btw...

P2293 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Mechanical Malfunction
Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
Power Loss
Possible Causes
Fuel Pressure too Low
Intake Camshaft Failure
Possible Solutions
Check Measuring Values for Fuel Pressure
Check for bent/squeezed Fuel Lines
Check Fuel Pressure System for Leaks
Check Fuel Filter & Filter in Fuel Pump
Check Fuel Quantity supplied by the Fuel Pump
Special Notes
When found in 2.0l TFSI:
Check Fuel Pressure
Rest of World (RoW) check TPI 2014143, the Intake Camshaft might have a worn out Fuel Pump Cam.
North American Region (NAR) check TSB 2015153 (01-09-03 > 15-10-01 > 15-10-02), the Intake Camshaft might have a worn out Fuel Pump Cam.
North American Region (NAR) check TSB 2018183 (20-08-01) and verify the High Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247) Part Number
Thanks. Will work my down that list.

I know you said the fuel pump cam and cam follower are fine, but what you need to check is the actual lobe on the camshaft. That is what I was referring to earlier. As you can see here there can be extensive wear on the actually lobe and revision B camshafts aren't immune to this either. Audi's claim that its a "hardened metal" for better/no wear is a crock of shit.

I see what you are saying. I do not have excessive wear on my cam follower. I've checked it a few times in the past 4 k miles. Still looks great. When I did look in, and feel the cam lobe, it felt smooth. I didn't rotate it though and feel all the way around.

Might have to get the code and bring it in.

Bump for an update. JPT, I'm getting intermittent fuel cuts/limp mode too. For example, this morning...drove for about 10 minutes, did some slightly aggressive throttle pulls...fine. I'll be cruising along and feel a bit of a stutter...limp mode. 30 seconds later, it's fine. 2 minutes later, back into limp mode. On and off, with no obvious rhyme or reason. I replaced my N80 a few days ago. I replaced my follower maybe 20K miles ago. I have yet to check the follower/cam lately. Did yours get fixed?

I'm not sure if I ever updated this but the dealer took care of everything! Thank god for the warranty.

My car has been stuck in my garage for over a month (new concrete driveway). I have checked my follower and there is no more damage. When I am in stock mode I never get the code, and I haven't had the code in a while. So, I have no update.

Sounds like this is a common problem and one that the cam follower (et al) warranty repair doesn't always cure. I'm experiencing similar woes at the moment...
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/606412-Electrical-Fuel-Pump-Low-Pressure-Diagnosis-on-P2293
...so if any of you guys found a solution (other than the cam follower work) then I'd be grateful to know about it.
I have had this code too. It only happens when I am using my stage one APR tune. I have a revision cam (2008) and the lobe and cam follower are fine. Under stock mode I can not get the code.
