has it been done? trying to find a few anwsers, I've sourced the parts; rear subframe/diff/axles/driveshaft/trans/rear hubs/gas tank/filler neck/heat shields all for $1000 out of a front end collision b7 with 29k miles on it. my questions about this conversion is with me being CVT, what electronically needs to be changed an is the crank the same between auto and cvt? sorry for the post if it's been covered but all my reading has been TIP FWD to quattro conversion, not cvt to anything else

Crank is different. You have the same crank as a manual. I would try to find a manual quattro donor if you want to get rid of the CVT. I think going tip would be a whole lot more involved than going 6 speed manual for sure.

You sure? I thought it was just the fact that it had a different plate and no pilot bearing? I agree though, go Manual not tip.

why would you swap a really crappy transmission for a somewhat crappy trans, if you're gonna tear that much stuff apart make it worth it.

Pretty much came here to say this. If i went through all the trouble to switch from auto, to other auto. i would be pissed.

Not sure why people want to hate on it so much..... I like my TIP, and wouldn't swap it for a manual for free.

The 6hp19 is actually a really good trans. While it doesn't shit as quickly as DSG it's stronger and lives just fine behind the 4.2

Don't think that this is possible without complete dissection and alteration for the front end. The only DSG that would work (and retain quattro) would be the one in the B8s (7-speeds) which moves the front axle forward significantly. Also, iirc, they are a bit larger in size as well.

I'd love to swap it to manual but I haven't been able to find the donor to be able to do it, I'm in fear of this cvt going out on me an being more expensive of a fix, where in this case I would gain quattro and a different trans for less then the price of replacing a cvt

Because it's missing a pedal. It's a decent auto trans, sure... but i'm 31 years old and never owned an automatic.

not every body is a car enthusiast and wants to shift day and night. personally i love driving manual but maybe sometime around. and daily a auto for comfort. but shifting here in fl where people can;t drive for shit it would drive me insane haha but i get your point man.
