I just moved to Texas for my job and went to get my driver's license but they said I didn't have the proper proof of vehicle registration. Can anyone tell me what piece of paper I need for proof? The lady at the desk was not clear at all, but said my blue tax collector's receipt wasn't the right document.

It's the piece of paper that you show the cops when you get pulled over. Is your car registered outside of TX?

Go to any shop that will inspect and register your car. Tell them you just moved to TX and they will provide a document for DMV/DPS.

Yeah, that's what I gave them and they said it wasn't the right paper. Though I have been pulled over and there wasn't any issue.

Well I actually bought the car here so it's already registered and everything in Texas and I just got all the documentation from the dealership. I even work for DPS and my boss said I had everything I needed since it's way different down here than what I'm used to in WA. I'm beginning to think the lady I asked didn't know what she was talking about. All she did was schedule driving test appointments...
Thanks for your help though, both of you. Hopefully I can go back tomorrow with every piece of paper I have and let them figure it out.

I just read the state's page and NO WHERE in there does it say ANYTHING about having to produce documents concerning your vehicle to get a drivers license in this state.

I need it to prove residency since I moved here so recently that I haven't had a water bill or anything yet. They were able to work with me on it since it was the dealer's mess-up not mine. But god what a headache. Thanks again for the help.

Well it's official. I'm yet another Texas driver with an awful license picture, but at least I finally got my license! You can all go back to doing better, more Audi related things :)
Thanks again!
