I need to do the intake camshaft R&R and am seeing what looks like an updated P/N from the "B" version.

Is 06F 109 101J the newest? Should I use the "B" version of it is cheaper?

Also what are folks using for the cam girdle sealant.

Thanks

where are you getting that part number from?

06F 109 101B is the latest Intake Camshaft for the b7 2.0t. Get that and only that.

It could've a newer revision? Call the dealer that's your best bet op.

For sealant we are using victor reinz high temp sealant. You can order it from integrated engineering or pick it up at a local autoparts store

Thats what I thought. Nothing on the interweba or etka though. No idea what the "j" revision is or could be. ECS lists that part, but has no specific info on it other than the name being "CAMSHAFT" haha.

GAP doesn't even list the part as existing though and their database uses ELSA I think so it should be right...

I've seen it in a number of places.

If you put the "B" P/N in this web page it changes it to the "J"

http://www.rmeuropean.com/search.aspx?keyword=06f109101b

And this one to

that's very strange...so usually when a part has a revision, they append a letter to the end of it. So the first camshaft for our engines was a part number A. then they came out with B which was stronger and two piece....and now they are up to J, but the strange thing is that they kept the same part number, and simply call it a revised J.....seems confusing.

I just called Mcdonald Audi in Denver and they confirmed the P/N has been updated to the "J" version - 06F 109 101J

Speaking of P/Ns do any of you know the correct cam girdle bolts P/N? I have N105 540 05. When I search for this part it shows used in a bunch of other places so I just want to make sure these are the stretch bolts.

Thanks

Make sure to order from Gap or elsewhere, stealerships will cost you 100-200 extra

You can use the "B" or the "J" cam. The "J" will be the newest number but as of right now vw and audi are substituting the J for the B and vice versa depending on what's in stock at the warehouse. I normally stock 3-4 intake cams at work, I ordered 4 of the "J" on my stock order, I was sent 3 J's and a "B". They are doing the same with the N205 valve, there are two part numbers currently available, vw sends me whatever one is in stock regardless of what number I order.

Also when the part number changes, it doesn't always mean the part was revised, sometimes it's just because corporate switched manufacturers or because the engineers in Germany updated the number in another market and then carried it over to North America.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I feel like it's probably the same part. If there were an actual update to the part design I feel like it would have been a big deal.

Are the two different N205s the same too? I need to replace mine.

They appear to be same, however after looking at the two revisions, I realized its the N205 valve for the 2.5 I5 motors and not the 2.0T. This is what happens when your around parts and part numbers for 48hrs a week.

Just thought I would bump this thread, I have installed the J rev cam and was wondering if OP has had any issues with timing?

No issues. I have about 1500 miles since new cam and it is running great. I posted some info. in another thread on how i timed it but it was strait forward, nothing unusual.

Hmm I used the audi tool to time mine and have replaced both the G40 and G28 sensor but for some reason I'm getting a correlation error. I was just wondering if the different revision might be having an effect.
