View Full Version : 034 motor mounts-taller than stock=exhaust banging

I think due to the suddle height difference between the oems and the SD motor mounts from 034 it pitched my exhaust at a slightly different angle. Whats the importance of the crossbar at the middle of the car? Im guessing it just adds rigidity to the car like a sway bar does but after those mounts were installed my exhaust piping hits off of this crossbar when hitting bumps in the road(its loud and annoying). I watched a video of raimotorsports full exhaust system and when they show the piping underneath there is no crossbar, idk if thats just for showing the exhaust or if its just an unimportant piece lol options are right now remove crossbar or stack washers underneath it until it no longer hits(if thats possible) idk the travel of the piping.
Ideas please :) thanks

Anybody have a clue? Lol can i just remove that cross bar or is it essential to the frame support lol or should this be under the dumb questions section haha

Throw it away it's useless in the sense that it provides no structural support. I always assumed it was a support for the exhaust if and ever the coupler came loose.

A lot of the lowered guys run without it. It's not that strong/stiff, I twisted mine so its higher at the front than the rear, haven't had a problem with it since.

I don't know why you'd need to remove it due to motor mounts. I have a lot of clearance and run 034 mounts with AWE exhaust. I guess you custom exhaust hangs a lot lower than stock.

I didnt remove it to do the motor mounts it just so happened to rattle after the motor mounts. Plus the exhaust was off last night due to the install of a secret goodie ;) (F23L) shhhhhh lol. A full review will be posted very soon on that.

I thought about removing mine just because it was annoying when installing my custom exhaust. Was curious about this too but I have the 034 mounts and no rubbing on the pipes. Than again I had my exhaust made custom to my car after the mounts were installed.

Im unsure at this point if the new motor mounts or the turbo caused the different pitch in the exhaust. Its not rubbing constantly but it only has maybe 1/16 of an inch between the crossbar and the exhaust so if i hit a bump or under accel it hits off it.

I bent mine on a raccoons head driving a few years back. Bent it so bad it was touching my exhaust and making a rattling noise. Removed it, never replaced it. No problems so far (3 years later)

That small piece of aluminum does nothing

My money is on it being a DOT or safety type thing.

Like to tuck the exhaust into the chassis if it breaks away

You shouldn't be getting any interference with our mounts, and the difference in height is only because the factory mounts will sag over time. That being said, the piece that your exhaust is hitting doesn't do much...

Id like to say 1st off that i love the mounts ;) lol seriously engine feels more locked down and shifts and accel feels much smoother and no vibration increase so 100% recommend these mounts to all lol but yea eff that metal bracket lol she lives in the dumpster now ehere it belongs lol
