Anyways this thread is about me making up my mind to finally trash my Beloved CVT [wrench] LOL. I find myself always driving in shift mode, (tiptronic) fake gears ha.
So therefore today I was like fuck it. why not get a 6speed an call it a day [cool] Yes i do have the time and money to spend on the project incase any of you ask. but i need help, i searched and everybodys answers drove me nuts this an that. so I wanna hear what you guys think an what parts a need and how much roughly will this cost me? I have my own mechanic his great an already knows i want to do this [drive]

Axles
Transmission
Clutch and Flywheel, Pressure plate
Rear Diff possibly
Pedals
Shifter Linkage, shifter, shift box
Manual ECU file
Minor wiring.
It will run you $2-3.5k depending on which clutch you go with, where you source the parts, etc...

wow that was cheaper then i thought.. I was thinking like 5k. Well that's perfect. and for flywheel no performance one just regular Oem works for me. also manual ECU file? what do you mean?

5k is typically the installed cost.
And yes, you really do want this done. Because CVT=worst.thing.evar

CVT was front wheel drive so no diff needed.

Ahh yes, I assumed he'd be adding quattro too. Don't you just need a driveshaft and the diff at that point?

For Quattro you'll need rear subframe/suspension/diff
Will also need fuel tank, driveshaft, exhaust + all the front end stuff.

Ouch. Nevermind then.

Manual ECU file, in simplest terms your cars ECU is tuned to run as a cvt car right now, if you want to run manual you will need a new tune or file, not sure how that works. It's little changes like when you start the car, you must depress the clutch pedal, so on and so forth. Someone explain that better if I am wrong..

I thought it was as simple as recoding via Vagcom to change ECU settings to manual, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure you are right. It is also my understanding that you have to do this *before* the swap or else you will have trouble coding.
There is a dude that wrote it all up in the b6 section a few years ago. Our cars should be very similar.

It is a simple recode via vag com.

fuck yeah I'm doing QUATTRO [drive] i'm not gonna have a fwd gearbox thats a waste. Yeah differential i will need for sure. and yeah I thought via VAG COM was just to change settings automatically. I could be wrong

Vizi did a write up on the quatro swap. Between that and the b6 manual dude's write up, you should have all the info.

It really is a bolt on swap. It's all mechanical. We've done it on a friends B6. Took two weekends of work and couple cases of beer.

AWD conversion wouldn't be terrible but the manual swap might be a bit of a bitch. Combine them and you have one hell of an ambitious project. Enough to warrant just buying a 6MT quattro B7 and being done with it me thinks.

I thought it was as simple as recoding via Vagcom to change ECU settings to manual, but I could be wrong.
It is just a recode with vagcom. Just do it before you start that way you can recode the ABS module, then ECU and dash to 6 speed without issues.

Will also need fuel tank, driveshaft, exhaust + all the front end stuff.
The starter is different for manual, also the subframe for the rear transmission mount it different for the 6 speed/quattro so make sure to swap that as well. Dont forget the 01E spacer ring for the transmission as well.

Not a hard swap at all. I would have done the whole quattro swap as well but did not have the time frame to do it. Plus I saved a little cash going just FWD for now( I am doing a motor swap/quattro later)

Having owned both, the tip isn't terrible for a daily. I still prefer my manual, but the tip was better than I expected it to be.

The tip is better then the dsg on stop and go traffic. The dsg is so jerky. Fast but jerky. And well the cvt is just boggy. I prefer the tip. Of cours manual wins it all.

I own a DSG and CVT and have driven manuals. The DSG is not jerky at all unless its broken and the same with the CVT. The trick with the CVT is not spinning the wheels

Hi everyone. I’m in the process of manual swapping my 2.0t b7 as well. I’m glad to hear that the coding necessary to swap it can be done via vagcom as everywhere else says you have to flash it. Is this true? Can anyone go over the vagcom coding procedure to manual swap? Thanks again.

A little update but to those reading you will need to flash your ecu. You can recode ABS, cluster, etc. but still need to flash. I will be just buying a tune from APR and flashing from home. You could prolly tow your car to a tune shop and have it flashed that way but I figured this is the easiest way especially if you were planning to tune your car anyway.
