View Full Version : 2.7T camshafts - position and orientation of cam hold downs

Took photos before taking the camshafts out (to document to position of the hold downs), but didn't check how the photos turned out. Turns out they don't show much.

Can someone comment/advise if I got them in the right position and orientation?

Orientation of them is correct, and order is correct. Just be sure you know which set is for which head. [up]

torque with 7 lbxft (all).
Redid the timing chains; still (always) uncertain how to 'count'. Used one method: start with exhaust cam, roller slightly left of 'tooth at cam mark', counted that one as 1, then intake cam 'tooth at cam mark' is between roller 15 and 16.

Another 2nd set of eyes would be appreciated (also, had removed the hold downs again to get cam/chain re-set) before closing up:

- camshaft hold down (orientation, position)
- cam timing (chain links)

Does anyone know of a specific pattern to be used in the tightening of the caps? Center out, Outside in, top L bottom R top R bottom L? Is there a prescribed procedure?
