Idk why but I can never find anything using the search on this site. Maybe I'm just missing something.

But anyways, I'm getting an intermittent rough start on my 2.0t, at about 118,xxx miles. Seems to only happen every now and then when the car has sat overnight. It'll crank for longer than normal before it catches. Once it ignites it runs fine however. Today was the worst one yet, took about 3 seconds to turn over. Its 34 degrees here so not too cold, but maybe that has something to do with it? Like a battery thing?

Possible N80 valve.

Mine went at 120k. Had rough starts after it sat all night or after filling up at the gas station.

Cheap and easy fix if so....

^ thanks for the reply. Any way to test it? I'll be doing a TB job soon so I may just add it to the list of things I'll do then too.

Thanks man. So really, worst case scenario, ~$200 starter. Not awful. Hopefully I can wait on this till summer. I'll get my battery tested too, the car is new to me so I don't know if its original or not

If it cranks, it's not the starter.

Battery then? It did it mildly again today and it was 50 degrees. Im really hoping this doesn't create a big problem fast, too many other maintenance things to do first.

Try spark plugs, coil packs, camshaft position sensor, n80 lol so much stuff it could be

[headbang] Hahah I have too much on my plate for this! Currently need to do rear sway links, timing belt, and possibly rear subframe bushings (I didn't think those fail regularly..)

Just crazy how being a member on this forum makes me so worried about my car, I'm replacing shit that there is nothing wrong with! Hahaha wouldn't have it any other way

Pull your n80(it's easy takes 5 minutes) try and blow through it both ways. It should only flow one way.

It's a cheap part from the dealer and worth a shot. It worked for me

Have you tried scanning your car for codes?

^ haven't scanned yet. I'll stop by advance auto parts tomorrow and have them do it. But I'll try the n80 test, thanks man

Alright so I had my battery tested, totally fine. Going to get codes scanned tomorrow. I'm reluctant to think its the starter because those other threads make it seem like there's a moment of nothing between turning the key and it starting to turn over, whereas mine starts to turn over but takes a while to ignite.

Idk if this is a real cure to the problem or not, but I had the same issue as you.. What i did was turn the key to the on position and let it sit there for 3-4 seconds, then turn the key to start the car and it fires right up

Did this today while it was 28 degrees out, definitely helped. Started right up as it should, thanks for the tip

Yeah glad it worked for you! I'm probably wrong but I think what it does it injects fuel or something, at least thats what I think I'm hearing when I turn it to the on position for a couple seconds then start it

^ Yeah I definitely heard something. Or even just takes a second to sync up in the cold haha who knows.
