I have a 2005.5 A4 3.2
Very nice car for the most part, has 205k miles - runs and drives extremely well, you'd think it had 100k miles.
anyways when I put the gear selector in the manual shift gate its not letting me control the shifting, it acts as if it was still in "D"
my transmission shifts perfect so I am confused to why this is not working..
any ideas?
Thanks

Does your DIS change from the regular PRND to 654321 or no?

Did you check it with vagcom for any codes?

It does not. It says PRND and does not show the gear. I believe my S mode does work though.

I also have a CEL for p0332 knock sensor 2 bank 2. That's the only code, so I cleared it hoping that the tip wasn't working because of the CEL well my CEL stayed out for 200 miles and returned, tip never worked with it off.
I hope this is nothing serious. I'm also trying to find a DIY for the knock sensor and having no luck.

Is the little plastic cover at the bottom snapped under the rest of the sliding cover? I know mine popped out was on top and I wasn't able to shift in tip mode

It's broke and moves around but it does slide over to the "+" and "-" shifting perfectly. Is that the problem?

Probably, it was mine atleast. There should be one slider around the actual shifter, and it has two almost tabs on the top and bottom, they're supposed to be under the gate.

Was it hard/expensive to fix ?
