View Full Version : Is my CVT screwed? Am I eligible for the CVT extended warrant?

I bought a low 2005 A4 with 42k miles. It ran fine for a few months, but now I am getting severe shuttering/vibration when moving from a stop. Once things are up to speed it sometimes goes away, but not always. The car drives perfectly fine sometimes, so I am unsure what is going on.

I first suspected coil packs so I changed those but it changed nothing.

There appears to be some type of fluid leaking but I cant tell if it is coolant or CVT fluid. I need to take down the under-body to see where it is coming from. I first suspected coolant because the car did in fact reach low coolant levels recently, although it doesn't smell like coolant. It could be CVT fluid, but it didn't stain the driveway, so I am perplexed.

Are these symptoms of a CVT going bad? As a second hand owner, am I eligible for the 100k mile extended warranty?

Might want to ask your dealer, or give them a call. Where in Texas are you located?

North Houston. Getting pretty worried I might be in for a big expense to fix this thing.

Thread update (not many people do this):

The severe shaking is caused by a faulty PCV! Yay! At least my CVT is OK for now.

And check that your car is covered under the extended warranty for the PCV. Otherwise it's a relatively inexpensive repair and can be done in 15 minutes easily.

A blown CVT might not be such a bad thing as you'd get it replaced and then be solid for another 75k of motoring! Can't stress enough the need to change that fluid....on the schedule that Audi suggests. It might not make a difference but you'd be a fool to ignore it!

Thanks. I am definitely aware of that and it is on my to do list.
