One of my rivet nut things broke free, and the idiot who put my plate on at the dealership decided to just use a drill and screwdriver bit to bore out a perfect circular hole instead of the square its supposed to be trying to drive the bolt in. So no repairing, it would seem. Needless to say, I am NOT about to give ECS or a dealership $100+ for a slab of ABS plastic... [facepalm]

Has anyone found a more fiscally responsible alternative? I've found these but I'm not sure what will work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-FRONT-REAR-LICENSE-PLATE-HOLDER-MOUNT-TAG-BRACKET-FOR-BUMPER-/150998462312?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item232835af68&vxp=mtr

I just got one of those 3d Audi chrome plate framed and I can't even use it yet! [=(]

^ just be very careful that you have chopped off enough of whatever screws you are using so that it does not puncture the paint behind the plate.

^ yeah that seems semi risky. What would I do, cut the screw anchor down and drill it in?

The exact same issue happened to me, OP. My shop was aware of this issue, and luckily had some plastic brackets available that they put in there for me. I believe I took pics before reinstalling my plate mount. Let me look through my pics tonight when I get home from work. I'll post back here if I have more info and pics.

Ok, this is the only pic I could find, but the white plastic pieces I believe are usually meant to go into drywall, and then you screw in a screw one time only. Maybe someone knows what this is called?

^ hmm do they snap into the hole? I think I can see how that would work. Not sure if I'd wanna use a one time use thing though you know?

I've had them in since April 2013 and are super-tight. In theory I could re-use them. I'm just saying that the design of the plastic is to allow the screw to go into the hole once and it grabs it tight. Yes, it has sort of a "V" shape that snaps into the hole. I believe some slight modification to the white plastic pieces was needed with a razor blade, but nothing crazy.

Also, I used a Dremel to shave the bottom of the plate plastic black frame so it was completely hidden from view:

^ That definitely does look good. I think I'll check these out, while waiting for a junkyard Audi to show up I can steal the mount from. Then I'll dremel it as you did. I mean so what if I end up using like 4 of those white inserts till then. Thanks man!

No prob man.
If you do the Dremel mod, just make sure to measure twice and cut once. You need to leave enough plastic on the bottom for the bottom two screw hole things - white pieces in my first photo. I used masking tape and cut with Dremel through the tape. Makes for cleaner cuts and less sanding needed.

^ Good idea. I'll probably trace my plate frame on there with a white pencil and then tape it off.
